Aroma is coffee, roast malts, pleasant smokiness, maybe a hint of cocoa. Pours black, not opaque, little if any haze, off-white head. Flavor is a nice balance of roast, chocolate, and smoke. The smoke is definitely in the foreground, but is not overwhelming, which is the first sign of success with a smoked beer. Some spiciness from the smoke and hops, minimal sweetness. Body is a touch thin, medium carbonation. Nice brew - a step beyond your average smoked beer, in my opinion.

S: Yowza, like sniffing a a sausage! Very heavy smoke, which works better with a stout than a lager. The roasted coffee beans and chocolate come through pretty clearly
A: Nice looking stout - light brown head
T: Very smoke heavy, that sausage smell becomes a reality. The malts mix well
P: Feels good, not very full
O: Lives up to the name. I couldn’t have much of this, or any other smoked for that matter, but went well with the roast beef sandwich

On tap at Eccentric Café. Dark brown with a creamy brown head and brown lowlights. Aroma of roasted and smoked malts with some chocolate in the background. Taste is creamy with smoked and roasted dark malts, light chocolate and a hint of coffee.

Half pint at the brewery. This beer is black as midnight. Roasty, charred aroma. Not particularly meaty but maybe like burned bacon. Espresso, earth, dark cacao scents as well. Creamy palate. Delicious balance of cacao, espresso, lingering, hidden notes of smoke. A faint bittersweetness balances things out. Absolutely tasty, but needs more smoke

Draft to taster. Looks fine; a little thin though. Smells good; malty and rosary. Tastes good too; much like it smells with some smoke and good balance. Nice on the palate too. One of the more enjoyable smoked beers I’ve tried.

Draught. Most is big on chocolate malt with lighter coffee notes. Dark red, no head. Flavor is Roasty, spicy, and lightly smoky. Nicely full bodied. Very dry but not in a way that affects the thickness. Interesting and delicious.

Draft. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate smoke sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex sweet smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met.

bells smoked stout. app. black with minimal to no head. aroma of smoke and roasted malt. some dark chocolate. light body leads to a nice smoky chocolate with some sweet cocoa and cream. coffee finish with burnt toast. thin but nice. 737314

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours black with dark brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a nice combo of dark grain and smoke with backing roasted malts. Flavor has a nice balance of smoke and roasted malts with a bit of chocolate.
