wingman333 (160), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle...Golden in color and indeed sparkling. Really more like a wine than a beer, extremely sweet, one-dimensional and not as complex as most Belgian ales. Reminds me of a dessert champagne more than anything else.
Beerman6686 (680), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2008 Poured a nice sparklnig yellow with a big white head. Aroma is of spices, and tart fruit. Flavor isnt as fruity as the aroma, but the sourness is there which finishes well to balance out the spices, Very interesting offering. antzman (305), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a medium gold with a full white head. the aroma is full of belgian yeast, candied sugar, and dark fruits. The flavor is really solid. A bit of sweetness, plenty of spices, light fizzy mouthfeel. A nice warming finish. MaltDawg (289), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 11, 2008 12 oz bottle. Spicey belgian yeast, sugar, and fruit in the aroma. Clear dark golden with small fine white head. Slightly tart with nice spiceyness, caramel malts with some candi sugar sweetness and moderate amount of spicey bitterness. Medium body with light fizzy mouthfeel. Finish is moderately dry with some nice spicey alchohol warmness. kosko20 (81), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Aug 10, 2008 Poured from bottle, I like the appearance except basically no head. Golden in color, with floating yeast throughout. (If head was present, I’d give 5) Fruity in aroma, with malt and yeast in the there too. After warming a bit, I can distinguish a lemon and an apple aroma. Flavor, kinda difficult to pinpoint this one...mainly yeast and malt. After warming, i can taste a little apple there. Palate is strange, very smooth and easy to down, excellent amount of carbonation and then a tart finish, (maybe from the apple?) makes me smack my tongue in my mouth. Overall, decent brew, a little weak on flavor but another good one from Bell’s. For a 10%, watch out, easy to down but you can still taste a tiny bit of alcohol, which makes it pleasant.
As for Belgian Strong Ales, I don’t have much experience, so for a beginner in this style, I’m trying. mistersinalin (267), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Aug 6, 2008 Again, the ales from Bells are always good. This one is a solid representation of a Belgian Trippel. The fruit, yeast, and zip all remind me of sitting outside a cafe in Brussels.
