matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Nov 7, 2009 12 oz bottle from holiday market. poursblack with a short lived tan head. big malt aroma, toffee, chocolate, dark fruits, spice. the flavour starts with dark fruit, the there is a wave of roasted malt, the finnish is a astrigent. complex but not the most drinkable. not the best bells offering. Travlr (694), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 7, 2009 Jet black, admits no light. medium tan head, disappears quickly, leaves nice lacing. Aroma of cafe au lait with burnt edges. Taste begins with chocolate, then progresses to roasted coffee beans, then finally to burnt espresso. Very nice indeed. Laid down 6 bottles tonight, hopefully I can wait a year. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from Chevy Chase courtesy of the Bang-Golly Foods Beer Club. This was not good at all. I was hoping for so much more in terms of flavor and texture and was roundly disappointed. Nose was a burnt coffee-and-grains mess. Flavor was much the same with a very mediocre porter quality about it. Tasted like that bottle of Arctic Rhino I rated earlier this year. My God this was pointless. AtlAggie (131), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours deep chocolate brown. Aroma is mildly smoky, chocolate, vanilla, roasted sweet malts, touch of soy and coffee. Pretty smooth flavor, slightly smoky, lots of dark bitter chocolate, slight bitterness on the end. Good stout. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle. Black pour with some dark head. Definitely get some lactose, chocolate, other coffee and sweet malts, could use a stronger coffee and roaster character. Decent brew, but far from the best at bells. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Oct 28, 2009 Pour from the 12oz. bottle: Sinfully sweet coupled with coffee beans, roasted malts, and semi-sweet chocolate. Light/medium carbonation, creamy layers, crisp finish, charred mouthfeel. Drinkability: Delicious and multi-dimensional. Rebuy: Yea. #170 on 28102009, DG. Pipper (225), Ohio, USA Oct 26, 2009 Great roasted coffee aroma and smell, toasted malts. Sweet, creamy, stouty and full bodied. Not as good as the bourbon barrel aged double cream/expedition stout though, by far. Still yummy. SSSteve (2042), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 24, 2009 12oz bottle. black with a small brown head. roasted malt and coffee aroma. flavor is roasty with milk chocolate and has some earthy herbal note. sweet cream and cocoa flavor. no bitterness at all. creamy but still a bit of fine carbonation. full body.
