3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Jet black in colour with a small off white head. The aroma is dominated by sweet chocolate (think chocolate chips), with more subtle notes of espresso, roasted malt, and a fruit element that I can’t quite identify (perhaps plum?). Upon drinking, the chocolate becomes a little less sweet, and takes on more of a powedered cocoa flavor. There’s also a bit of a yeasty note with a bit of leafy hop bitterness at the end. The sweetness is a little less than I expected, but well within stylistic guidelines. I had hoped for a bit more body too, but again, it’s not as if it’s thin. I tend to want sweet stouts to completely bowl me over with sweetness and thick mouthfeel... I found this one to be a bit on the tame side, but still a quality beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black color but lessening into a brown color though still opaque and a dark tan head. Big cream aroma, dark yeast fruit (though well-integrated and not overdone) and coffee. This is one of my favorite stouts. A solid body, a nice dollop of hops and acidity at mid palate, and sweetness coming back into a solid stout finish. Complexity of flavor includes malted milk, fruit cake, crystallized sugar, espresso dryness, and a warm, alcohol background.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice dark color, subdued aroma, mostly malty. I smell a subtle sourness that concerns me, but in the taste it translates to a subtle fruitiness. Rich and creamy like a milkshake. Fruity with a bitter, dry finish. Quite quaffable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Densely opaque, black body, thick chocolate mousse head formation. Roasted chocolate and berry aroma. Strong chocolate and vanilla flavor, fairly roasted, good bitter finish. Pretty well balanced with sweet strawberry touches. Good complex mix of flavors.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Jet black; thick; monstrous, super-dark brown, almost reddish head. Aroma has some dark fruit but mostly is chocolate with vanilla and caramel; actually smells creamy. Flavor very good, with chocolate and vanilla; not much roastiness, which is fine by me. Nice and thick; bit sticky. Excellent brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Gorgeous deep brown with about 3/4 of an inch of tan head that faded down to a thin layer that rested on top for the whole bottle. Actually smelled like cream, not milk, but a cross between a beer and a container of cool whip. Very smooth taste, a blend of malts, chocolate, coffee, and the obvious cream. No bitterness on the tail end, but the feel is a little on the heavy side as it hits your stomach. A serious improvement over their Java Stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A super brew, pour was dark with a nice laced white head. Aroma full of chocolate, malts, and very mild spices. Taste was similar and overall very drinkable. And of course nice and creamy. Another great outing from bells.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2004 Pours an opaque black with a tad bit of reddish brown if held up to the light. Nice amount of foamy tan head. Aroma is very complex mixture of sweet malts, roasty coffee, and sweet caramel. A little too sweet I would say. Taste is very smooth, sweet and almost milky, and some roasted coffee flavor. Very well balanced. Overall, this is a very good beer.
On another note, my buddies who are BMC fans said they felt like they were drinking alcholic syrup.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2005 Nice. Pours a dark, dark, dark brown color with a short-lived brown head, soon readuced to a halo & some lacing across the glass. It’s got a lightly roasted aroma with coffe scents and chocolate coming through. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, this tastes of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, coffee, and chocolate with some mild spicing underneath. There’s a touch of the hops and some nice roasted malts in its long, satisfying finish. Nice job, Bell people.
