3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Wow, Bell's sure likes making stouts. And they do a good job.
As I was pouring this it didn't look like it was going to have much head so toward the end I poured a little more vigorously. That was a mistake, as I had to drink a lot of foam really fast to not make a mess. Huge head.
Pours very black with the aformentioned large head that lasted all the way through the beer leaving a really nice lace.
Smells of dark roasted malts and chocolate.
Tastes pretty good, but this isn't their best stout. The chocolate isn't as apparent in the taste. It's actually more like bitter coffee.
Mouthfeel is good and creamy with a bit of a mineral feel to it. Drinkability is okay, but not something I'd seek out again.

Ok.. much better here, pours dark with a small tan head. Very sweet aroma with chocolate and caramel presant. Flavor to match although ther was a bit of tanginess in the finish that took away from the overall. Good beer for specific occasions.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 5, 2004 Black, with a great brownish head. Has a wonderful aroma from toffee, butter and milk chocolate. Flavor is milk chocolate as well, some vanilla and with some cream. Very smooth and pleasant with a great hoppy finish. Also it leaves great lacing on the glass.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mixture of coffee and bitter chocolate. A touch watery, but I have found this to happen with many of the Bell's.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2005 Appearance: BLACK, not dark brown, not slightly black, this mother is BLACK. No head.
Very faint coffee scent- wish there was more of a smell- because this beer has a nice look.
RICH and THICK. Coffee, chocolate... nice. Burnt rice..
Thin in the mouth for a thick brew.
A bit too thick in body and thin in mouth to warrent more than slightly above average drinkability.

Aroma smells like a double shot of cream got dumped in my glass, but there is a very nice malt backbone in the background. Pours very dark, almost, if not black with a big tan head that refuses to go away. Ther is nice lacing all the way around my glass at present. Flavor is initially cream, but that quickly give way to bitter chocolate and a strong coffe flavor. Finish is a bit thin IMO. Quite nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light, flash-in-the-pan phead the fades to a ring of foam around the edges but stirs up easily with a small swirl. Chocolate and char on the nose. The flavor has an odd dry powdery flavor (can't quite describe it actually), that seems to intertwine itself with the chocolate malt flavors to give the impression of a mouthfull of cocoa powder. A bit milky in the flavor. I really imagined a stout called Double Cream to be a bit thicker, but it's not exactly thin. Definitely improves as it warms.

Draft - black brew with a surprisingly light colored head. Still brown, but lighter than many. A beautiful beer! Roasty and chocolaty with a creamy mouthfeel. I love it!

(sampled at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden) Black with a small creamy beige head. Coffee, cocoa, vanilla and spicy hops in aroma. Chocolate, sweet coffee, burnt sugar and cocoa in flavour. Smooth finish. Almost too drinkable. Excellent stout.
