Thanks to hopdog for giving me this bottle to sample. Pours a dark, dark brown, basically black with a foamy darker tan head. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate, toffee, caramel and maybe some light coffee hints. Flavor of sweet caramel, cocoa, coffee, even picking up some of the hops hidden in there.

Bottle. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aroma of vanilla, cocoa, molasses. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavor of dark roasted malts and bitter chocolate offset by some spicy hops. Dry roasty finish, with a hint of sweetness. Yet another good stout from Bells. I think my sample could have used some more sweetness for the style. This one is not as good as the K-zoo stout in my opinion.

Very creamy (ya think?) mouthfeel and a rich sweet roasted chocolate flavor but I was expecting something a bit more "over the top."

Bell’s Special Double Cream Stout Holy Larry! This is why Bell’s is loved so much by Michiganders- great beer for the Great Beer State. What a gigantic Johnson this Bell’s Special Double Cream Stout is! Rich decadent darkness yields to deep coffee and cacao nib spice laced perfectly on a robust rich body. I can only compare this beer to the likes of Trappistes Rochefort 10 meets Lion Stout. Thank you Larry for making it easy for me to be proud of my state’s beer!

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Hellomynameis - many thanks. Huge rocky brown head with excellent lacing that slowly settles on a black opaque liquid, simply phenomenal looking! The aroma is of roasted malts, but a little underwhelming. From the looks of it, I expected a little fuller body, but it’s rather medium/full, lightly carbonated, and actually quite pleasant. Smokey, roasted flavors predominate, and I taste some bunrt caramel, coffee, and bitter chocolate as well. Considerably drier finish than most sweet stouts, in fact it’s almost a little harsh in that regard. To me, it’s pushing the envelope for a sweet stout, although I found it very enjoyable and drinkable.

On tap at the Landmark in Milwaukee WI. Pours a thick black with light brown head that fades quickly. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, sweet malts and soem hoppiness. Flavor follows aroma very well and introduces a bit of stickiness. Funtastic!

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of Silphium. Pours a nice deep black with a spare diminishing light-brown head. Awesome mild aroma of creamy milk chocolate, coffee, some hops, caramel malt and spices. Flavour pretty much follows the aroma: lots of delicious creamy milk chocolate along with roasted malt and hops -- so damn tasty! Once again Bells knocks another Stout right out of the park -- how do they do it?! Fantastic.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev - blankboy’s bottle. Poured thick oily-looking black with a small light brown head. Dry and somewhat muted smoky aroma, opens out on warming; roast nuts and bitter coffee grounds, hot chocolate sweetness, some dry leafy hops with a hint of lactose and tart fruit - again, very dry. Taste was dry, bitter cocoa, some sour cherry mixed with creamy hot chocolate (with marshmallows) providing some sweetness, but it finished more than a little bitter. Dry, thick, chalky mouthfeel, almost syrupy, not much carbonation but why would you want that? This is another solid stout from these guys - I’m so jealous - dry aroma, sweet chocolate flavour and a thick, bitter roasty finish - a great stout.

Bottle, shared with hogtown harry and blankboy, generously donated by blankboy for my 1100th rating. Black, nice chocolaty brown small thick head. Muted aroma - some milk chocolate. Incredible milk chocolate creamy mouthfeel. Lots of sweet chocolate in taste, some roast, some hops. lovely roof of your mouth chocolate film left over. Sweet and good, how do these guys keep making so many unique and fantastic stouts?
