COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

Intense, opaque brown with a thin velvety head. Inviting nose with notes of chocolate, smoke, raisin, and--I swear to god--beef. Front is smooth and creamy. Most of the flavor comes out in the middle--tremendous malt depth with all manner of dark malt flavors. But the most beautiful thing here is the palate--thick, velvety and not the least bit sticky. Finishes cleanly with a touch of dark chocolate bitterness. Another wonderful Stout by Bell's and flavorful enough to rival even the best imperials.

Black in appearance but not opaque, light, caramel fluffy head. Burnt toffe aroma. Stong, sweet flavor of roasted malt, espresso and vanilla. Very creamy with a liqueur-like finish. Not an everyday beer, but tasty.

thanks to dsquire, ruby tinted black, sweet aroma with vanilla and nutmeg. palate is excellent. flavor starts slightly sweet but no overpowering and has a pleasent bitter finish

Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a pitch black oily liquid light can not penetrate with a small amount of caramel colored head. Aroma is of faint hop, molasses and strong malt (yummy!!). Flavor is of molasses, vanilla, and slight to small hops ending and faintly dry. Sampled at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

The aroma speaks of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Not quite as harsh as some of Bell's other stoutly offerings. Opaque with no head at all. Body is creamy with elements of lactose and coffee. One of my favorite stouts!

Pitch black with a tinge of dark caramel at the edges. Head is small and dense. Aroma is of strong black coffee and charred malts. On the dry side and medium bodied but smooth. Flavor is strong bitter coffee. Not as sweet as I'd like. Overall pretty good though.

Poured black, not quite opaque with a soft creamy tan head and nice lacing. Roasted, sweet, super creamy aroma. Full mouthfeel with sweet tastes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. This was very fulfilling, and I could drink many of these at a time.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2004 Malty, slight chocolate aroma-not very strong at first but picks up.Head disappeared quickly. Bitter chocolate and coffeelike flavor.Fairly thin mouthfeel, but enjoyable just left to linger in my mouth for awhile.dry, bitter, slightly acidic finish.Gives no clue to its ABV while drinking it which can sneak up on you.easy drinking, enjoyable stout. I plan to cellar a couple till next fall. 01/12/04-Couldn't wait. Aroma seems more pronounced this time. A little better balanced to me also. More sweetness noticed. Alcohol noticeable. Still no head. Still tasty.

Good aroma of grains typical of Bells. Head is good. I thought the taste was a little too sour and a little off. Very malty and full though. Pretty good aftertaste of roasted malts and chocolate. A little overrated.

The black body of this brew is topped by a medium thick to thick creamy, brown head with a good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is slightly bitter, roasty, bready and malty with a slight sweetness and a touch of coffee. The flavor is roasty and malty with a bitter, sweet chocolate note and a touch of coffee. Full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.
