3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep inky black appearance. Roasted grain aromas. Small tan head. Fruity and a little thin at first. Light cherry notes, dark chocolate, olives?, medium bodied, but finishes long and slightly bitter, big malt. Decent brew, although I feel this is over-rated.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2003 Sweet and creamy? Had this on tap in IL. My initial reaction on sipping this was drinking lemonade that has no sugar in it, very bitter in an unpleasant way. No aroma at all, small head that dispersed quickly, taste was covered up by the bitterness. Given the name of the beer this was the last thing I expected in this stout.
Re-rate: Bottle. The tap must of been bad because the bottle version was quite tasty. This time it was sweet and creamy along with the coffee and chocolate flavors. Very nice.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A great beer. Nice smooth malty flavor, with some coffe and a little chocolate. There is very little carbonation, which I approve of in this beer. The arroma is somewhat lacking but the flavor makes up for it. Another great beer from Bell's.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black body with a thin, tan head.
Smelled malty with a hint of sourness.
Tasted milky and sweet. CH3CHOHCOOH acid is apparent in the flavor.
Low carbonation serves this beer well.
This is easily one of my favorite beers of the moment!

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2003 Poured like oil, smelled weak. Taste like Starbucks chocolate frappachino with alcohol. Goes great with t-bone steak.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 3, 2004 The nose of this is rather strange, somewhat reminds me of canned stew, but I dont know why. No real bite, but a rich malt flavor throughout. As soon as it was opened, the aroma of coffee was very present, but faded after a while. Would go extremly well with a desert or a nice rich meal, but not something I would go for on it's own.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2009 Bottle... This beer rocks!... The nose is of milk chocolate, weak coffee and berries in cream. The color is black for the most part. Deep, dark copper when held up to a halogen bulb. Small, well-tanned head with a copper tint. Fully diminishing. The flavor is of cocoa powder and buttermilk up front. Even more intense tartness on the backside. Liquid joy. Liquid Fun. Full-bodied with lively carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Long, tangy, pungent finish with a small hint of prairie grass at the wee end. World class sweet stout.
