UPDATED: DEC 31, 2003 a thick black, creamy beer. slight tan head that recedes quickly. smells like coffee and roasted malts.... goes down smoothly, with a savory and sweet roasted chocolate flavor with a bit of a bitter finish. smooth. creamy. delicious.

Pours dark brown with little to no tan head. Aroma is roasted and sweet malts. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, caramel malts, other things that are dark. Finishes pretty bitter. It’s ok, but certainly not their best stuff.

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark brown with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly leaving little lacing. Very mild aroma with notes of vanilla and malt. Thinner mouthfeel than I expected. Coffee and chocolate notes with a toasty aftertaste. Not bad, but thin for a cream stout.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
As far as non-flavored sweet stouts go, this one rates high. Smooth and robust. They use 10 different malts. This brew has more grain depth than the typical sweet stout. No coffee, no chocolate, just straight up smooth and creamy stout.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark, dark brown with a small tan head that vanished quickly. Pleasant chocolate and molasses aroma. Great taste of chocolate and malt with a bit of coffee. Incredible creamy, smooth finish makes this one of my favorites.

Gooey, ooey, rich and chewy. If you like a full flavored, chocolatey stout you can’t go wrong here. Just bowls you over with the endless flavor

Bottle at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe. Not overly impressed. If I didn’t know better, I would never have guessed this is a sweet stout. Tasted very mainstream. Nothing that made me want another. Switched to the Expedition stout-- much better.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
For a beer with 10 different types of malt in it this was a disappointingly one-dimensional beer. Faint aroma of coffee and liquorice, and with a taste of cold coffee and mollases. Really malt sweet upfront, but a thin, watery body - nothing like the fat, chewy character of its big brother the Expedition Stout. A poor relation in my book.
