4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz btl. Pours a medium to thick bodied, dark with a hint of burgundy undereath. Nice coffee malt aroma. Love the taste, I’ve been drinking a lot of high gravity stouts lately and this is a refreshing change of pace at 6.1 percent. Sweet cocoa start then a pleasant balanced bitterness into a roasted coffee finish. Great easy going stout.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2014 Pours a lovely dark brown almost black with a tan colored head. Has a lovely toffee aroma. Has a very smooth almost milk chocolate taste to it. With subtly bitter after taste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours extremely dark with a brownish white head that quickly fades yet sticks to the side of the glass. Smells a bit burnt and also like oxygen has gotten to it quickly. It is sweeter than I am used to but what sticks out is a big burnt, smoky taste that actually works well with the sweetness and makes for another solid beer for Bells.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a winter beer, and I tried it in may, not that it makes that much of a difference, but it was quite heavy. Aside from that, it poured a very dark brown/black totally opaque with a caramelly dark head. Had a definate chocolate aroma, none of the coffee that one gets a lot of times from a stout. When I tasted it, instantly I got the chocolate flavor, with maybe a touch of coffee aftertaste. Overall, it was a bit heavy, especially for the time of year, but would be nice with a chocolate dessert. I liked it generally, and would probably get it again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I’ve had better batches of this beer, but this is the one I’m rating so, here goes. Seems a bit oxidized and overly harsh. Not nearly as smooth as you’d think it should be. I prefer expy or Kalamazoo to this one. Maybe its sat on the shelf for a while..not sure.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2007 Black with tan head that dissipated quickly. Aroma was of chocolate, malt, hops, and oak. Flavor was similar except with some syrup sweetness. Tingly with carbonation and alcohol taste in the mouth, which distracted from the flavors. Finish was crisp and bitter.

via trade with wheninhell - like all of the bells stouts, this pours jet black. aroma is of milk chocolate and roasted malt. flavor is something like a mocha coffee with cream. this has a nice full body with a sweet lingering finish. pretty good, but not up to the level of the other bells stouts ive had.

Batch 8150 bottle. Black pour with tan foamy head, nice lace. Smells of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. Also, very slight sour milk aromas. Creamy sweetness followed by bitter coffee/dark chocolate flavors. A bit thin on the palate. Slightly sweet, warming finish. Easy drinking. Good cool weather brew.
