Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

It has a little bit of a coffee taste that is common to stouts. It has a good frothy head to it that leaves fairly quickly compared to other beers. The froth a a mildly bitter flavor to it that is quiet enjoyable.

Pours black with tan head fading to a strong lace. Good oak notes balance bittersweet chocolate. Strong velvet cream mouthfeel.

Pours heavy black, labors out of the bottle. Frothy, dark tan head on the pour but little head lingers and the lace slides down the glass. Smells sweet, licorice and molasses with some coffee. The malt lingers subtly under the other scents. Smells like a roast-enhanced syrup. Chewy beer. Roast is the primary taste with sweet edges. Chocolate, molasses, with a licorice tinge. Dry aftertaste. This beer is most notable for its thickness. Chewy, malty, mostly roast flavor with sweet edges. Tastes more of a high abv beer than what it is. It becomes smoother and roastier as it warms.

Aromas of caramel, chocolate, coffee. Appearance is black, cloudy, frothy head. Taste of medium bitterness. On the palate full body, creamy, long finish. Overall a good beer.

A nice stout, similar flavors to the kalamazoo and expedition but a little lighter bodied smoother and sweeter, not nearly as bold and complex as expedition but enjoyed it as much, or more, as the kalamazoo.

Roasted flavors dominate the aroma and the taste, complemented by chocolate. It is medium to full bodied. The carbonation is excellent - the bubbles are just right on the tongue. Slight bitterness, very smooth. A great stout.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a dark brown almost black with a small tan head that goes quick. Aromas of coffee, cream, cocoa and a nice burntness. Flavor is slightly bitter up front from the coffee and slight hop bitter. Finishes with a nice coffee/cocoa flavor. Mouthfeel is very oily. Overall a pretty solid beer.

Insanely roasty toasty. Lighter and with more acid edge than the Exp or Kalamzoo. yum

Aroma boozy coffee roasty. Lactose makes it sweet for sure, little sour bitter finish. Great smooth full body mouthfeel. Good middle and excellent finish the aroma and inital taste through it from above 4 for me. Would be a regular drinker for me if I could get it.

This was second of three Bell’s stouts I’ve just tried. This has a very powerfull aroma of dark roasted malts with notes of coffee. I couldn’t help but taste a bit of overly burnt bitterness that wasn’t only from the hops. This stout is average in my opinion.
