4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Jet black, admits no light. medium tan head, disappears quickly, leaves nice lacing. Aroma of cafe au lait with burnt edges. Taste begins with chocolate, then progresses to roasted coffee beans, then finally to burnt espresso. Very nice indeed. Laid down 6 bottles tonight, hopefully I can wait a year.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from GBBF 2014 and drunk at home. Black beer lasting tan head. Creamy dark chocolate aroma, I mean a lot of chocolate it’s a bit like sniffing a bar of Bournville Cadburys chocolate to be honest but a bit creamier. More of the same in the mouth, but no heaviness, it’s quite light at heart. A little roastyness. It’s fine. Not really my thing, but at least no obvious lactose to put me off. Aroma is attractive. Everything else is good but just not my style of beer. Prefer something drier, hoppier, blonder and generally more like an ipa. But then that’s just me.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, thx to SecretSanta. A very dark brown beer, finger-thick tan to beige head on top. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee on the nose, more pronounced than for the Kalamazoo Stout. Roasted, coffee-ish flavor with some chocolate and notes of beef stock. Full-bodied, smooth and dry. Roasted finish. As the Kalamazoo Stout, a bit one-dimensional, but certainly very nice. 110930

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle. A super-solid beer. Pours a dark brown with a fluffy tan head. Nose of bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor was lightly sweet with considerable bitter, burnt malt character. Very rich, big-bodied and smooth. Some mild hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Awesome.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 5, 2004 Black, with a great brownish head. Has a wonderful aroma from toffee, butter and milk chocolate. Flavor is milk chocolate as well, some vanilla and with some cream. Very smooth and pleasant with a great hoppy finish. Also it leaves great lacing on the glass.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught, 6.1%. Roasted aroma, sweet and salty liquorice. Black colour. Good stable brown head. The flavour is milder but fuller than the aroma. Good mild coffee note with only a little bitterness. Very creamy flavour and mouthfeel. Really good and well-balanced.
