Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

Bottle. Aroma of coffee, sour milk and dirt is not too appetizing. Pours black with tan head, small and with a little lacing. Cream is right! Mouthfeel is almost like milk. Still a little sour tasting, but a good effort. THis is 4 of 4 of my Bell’s stout-fest. I’d rank them 1) Expedition 2) Java 3) Double Cream 4) Cherry

Batch 8842. Deep brown-black pour with a thick tan head. The nose is very chocolatey. It has the bright cocoaish intensity of the Expedition but in a much lighter body. Very rich and chocolatey with a nice milk chocolate backbone. Unctuous/silky body with a great balance of sweetness and cocoa. There is a bit of vanilla and brown sugar rounding out the back. Chewy, rich and very tasty.

Bottle at Kasey’s Tavern, Chicago - 03/11/12. Black with a thin tan head that soon clears to the edge of the glass. Nose of roast malts, creamy milk chocolate, dark toffee. Tastes of chocolate, roast malt, molasses, all round creamy feel. Medium bodied, rich with soft carbonation leadinf to a dryish finish. Another good stout from Bells!

330 mL bottle. Pours more formidable than the Kalamazoo Stout- used motor oil black with a menacingly dark tan head. Lacing is not too great. Aroma is red licorice, roasted malt, burnt sugar. Flavor is powerful with espresso, burnt sugar, cocoa powder, dark chocolate. Moderately creamy on the palate, almost watery. Aftertaste is short and neutral with some bursts of unsweetened dark chocolate. Reminds me a lot of Guinness Foreign Extra but loads more cocoa.

Bottle thanks to secret Santa. Pours black with small tan head. Nose is milk, lightly toasted malts and creamer. Taste is very smooth cream, chocolate and lightly roasted malts. Very satisfying stout.

Sampled @ ChrisO after GBBF day 2. Very dark brown to black color, small brown head. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, bitter, roasty bitterness, dark chocolate. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice.

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. This is an excellent Stout, which I understand is par for the course with Bell’s. I can’t wait to try the entire line! Pours black as night with a thin bone-white head and good lacing. Great smooth creamy flavor that I could enjoy all night.

Black with a large frothy brown head. Smells like a bit of a mowed lawn underneath the usual roasted coffee aromas that are the norm. Creamy is an understatement for this one. Very thick and smooth throughout, sweet milk and semi-sweet chocolate over the tongue with a slightly gritty finish which tastes like coffee. The mouthfeel is quite unique, and the beer is almost frictionless as it rolls across the tongue... very interesting.

Black beer with dark amber-beige head. Chocolate, and dried wine or brandy barrels; sweet, near-fruity. Dark-brown sugar aroma. Sweet, coffee & cacaopowder; roasted finish, breadcrust. Retronasal like unsweetened cocoacream. Quite velvety MF, despite lively carbonation. Medium bodied, slick. Sweet, but warming stout, nice. Once more thanks to DaveDave

Bottle thanks to Kosko20. Bottle markeed 8150. Pours a deep brown with a deep head that fades on top of it. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and soot. Tastee is a bit husky with coffee grounds and a bit of lactose. Very creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation.
