Bottle. Creamy dark chocolate malt aroma. Black-brown color with small head. Creamy dark chocolate malt flavor. Lighter mouthfeel than with some stouts. Extremely easy drinking - another great Bell’s beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at avrashi’s place. Thanks troubles. Dark to black, not opaque, with a small tan head. Roasty aroma with dark chocolate, a bit of coffee and a smoky note. Sweetish and slightly bitterish flavor, roasty, with dark chocolate, a bit of cocoa, some coffee and a finish with some bitterness and a smoky note. Medium-bodied. Very good.

12 oz bottle. Bottled on 09/08/14. (Grape & Gourmet) Virginia Beach, VA
Pitch black pour with a small tan head. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, mild hops and some cookie sweetness in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, mild chocolate, some sweetness and mild hops. Quite nice. A bit thin.

12oz bottle. Light-brown one-finger head, nearly pitch-black color. Was putting this one off for far too long because I feared it would be too rich and thick for the summer, but it turns out that this is perfectly drinkable. Doesn’t taste too full, very smooth going down. Wonderfully gradual deep-malt aroma. Roasty, with a sweet aftertaste. Special, indeed.

330 mL bottle. Pours more formidable than the Kalamazoo Stout- used motor oil black with a menacingly dark tan head. Lacing is not too great. Aroma is red licorice, roasted malt, burnt sugar. Flavor is powerful with espresso, burnt sugar, cocoa powder, dark chocolate. Moderately creamy on the palate, almost watery. Aftertaste is short and neutral with some bursts of unsweetened dark chocolate. Reminds me a lot of Guinness Foreign Extra but loads more cocoa.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured black with a brown head. Aroma had a sweet creamy chocolate note as well as a roasted malt note. The roasted malts were more present in the flavor with the creamy chocolate flavor relegated to a supporting note. High point was smoothness of the beer, described by one word... Amazing!

2009-07-19. Pitch black body, nice tan head faces. (3+) Aroma of roast malt, touch of coffee grounds. (6+) Flavour is sweeter than expected from the nose, touches of roast and mocha overtones, but not a lot of roast bitterness, sweet malty middle. Smooth medum plate is lightly carbonated. Aged a bit longer than planned, but it is a decent stout. Aged Bottle via ChicagoDRI trade.

Poured tan/brown with an off white head, smelled of sweet chocolate and coffee. Tasted of sweet milk chocolate with a slight toasted malt/dark flavor that finished creamy and smooth.

Batch 8842. Deep brown-black pour with a thick tan head. The nose is very chocolatey. It has the bright cocoaish intensity of the Expedition but in a much lighter body. Very rich and chocolatey with a nice milk chocolate backbone. Unctuous/silky body with a great balance of sweetness and cocoa. There is a bit of vanilla and brown sugar rounding out the back. Chewy, rich and very tasty.
