COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours a deep dark darkness with mocha head and decent lacing. The aroma is light with roastiness and faint charred malts. The varied malt bill comes through in the flavor that starts roasty to burnt and slowly becomes sweeter with sweet caramelized malts mixed with chocolate and vanilla. The vanilla gives it a faint cream soda sensation that Iím not a big fan of in a beer. It ends with burnt malts and chocolate malts.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of sweetened chocolate, a lactate-y quality and slight roastiness. Flavour follows suit, with the roastiness and sweetened chocolate upfront - milky body that leaves the slightly sweetened chocolate lingering. Quite good though nothing overly special.

Bottle. Very dark brown with old copper penny highlights and a thick tan head. Aroma sets my mouth watering: chocolate liqueur, milk, treacle. Flavour is like liquid brownies from the pan, chocolatey, a little doughy, creamy and delicious.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured black with a brown head. Aroma had a sweet creamy chocolate note as well as a roasted malt note. The roasted malts were more present in the flavor with the creamy chocolate flavor relegated to a supporting note. High point was smoothness of the beer, described by one word... Amazing!

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 BOTTLE: Dark brown/black pour. Aroma is chocolate, malt, and milk. Taste is creamy, roasty, chocolate, toffee, nice full mouthfeel. Great beer.

12oz bottle. Light-brown one-finger head, nearly pitch-black color. Was putting this one off for far too long because I feared it would be too rich and thick for the summer, but it turns out that this is perfectly drinkable. Doesnít taste too full, very smooth going down. Wonderfully gradual deep-malt aroma. Roasty, with a sweet aftertaste. Special, indeed.

Pours black, brownish head. Aroma, roasted, some piney hops, malty. Taste, sweet and creamy, light hops and chocolate. Malty, with some nice notes of roastiness. Beer could pass for more than 6.1% and has a nice warming mouthfeel. Aftertaste has some light coffee notes. Gets better with external temperature.

12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. All right, out of the gate, I just have to say that for such a nice beer, people arenít putting any effort into the ratings. This beauty pours a really dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head that leaves some really cool lacing behind. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, earthy hops, dark fruits, coffee, a little smoke, vanilla, and molasses. Flavor of chocolate, fudge, vanilla, earthy hops, berries, grass, sweet roasted malts, metal, and cola. Medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a mouthfeel thatís hard to characterize- maybe sweet roasted cherry juice. That doesnít make any sense. Anyway, this is a really nice sweet stout, and Iím starting to wonder if I mix this and Expedition Stout if I will get the highly sought-after beer with such high ratings. Maybe. Expedition Stout is better by itself. Iím going to see what equal parts will do...

On tap at HopCat while in town for RBSG. Pours a deep black with a medium to thick beige head. Soft toffee, coffee and roast. Smooth and creamy, light chocolate bitterness.

Dark brown, creamy decent head. Buttery creamy aroma, sweet rich with roast notes. Softer, mellower coffee. Nice aftertaste.
