Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

This beer was poured from a 12oz bottle into a Town Hall sniffer. A. The beer pours a pitch black. About 2mm of a tan head, that faded relatively quickly. Minimal to no lacing on the glass. S. Smells of mild chocolate, toffee and smoke and light coffee. T. Strong toffee/vanilla sweet taste. The sweetness never really fades from your mouth. Smooth, but almost a little bit bitter. M. Full bodied, but a thin feeling on the tongue. It meets it claim, and is a creamy smooth tastes. O. Overall it is a good beer. I wouldn’t have a problem ordering this in a bar. However I wasn’t blown away by the flavor. It seemed to be very one sided. The initial cream sweetness holds through, but not as many other flavors come out after. I feel like even with a year under it’s belt, this beer might not round out.

This is one of Bell’s weakest stouts, in my opinion, but it still is a solid go-to for the value in price in the stout category. Compared to the Java Stout or even Kalamazoo by Bell’s, this one is a little more on the extra-bite side. With all of that being said, this is still a quality beer that has a lot going for it. Pours a nice dark head and has decent aromas of chocolate and caramel.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2012 Not as much aroma as I would’ve expected. A little bit of smoke. Tastes roasted. Chocolate, a little coffee, with a little bit of biscuit. Not quite as smooth as a cream stout should be, but great on the palate. Pleasant, welcoming aftertaste.

Poured from a bottle dted 1/25/12 into a pint glass. Pours a very dark brown but not exactly black. Brownish two inches of head and moderate lacing. Smell of coffee and cola. Mouthfeel is thick and decadent but not overly oily or rich. This certainly isn't an imperial stout. Taste is sweet with hints of coffee and sugar. Similar to Kalamazoo but not as bitter ie sweeter and less coffee and no licorice, yay! Very solid stout but too sweet for me. I like mine a little dryer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pours an opaque black with a small tan head. The aroma is complex. Chocolate hit me first, then coffee, then a bit of dark fruit, then roasted/smoky malts. Full body with just enough carbonation. Finish is long and full of roasted malts.

Bottle->tulip. Cola pour. Aroma is more complex than the standard coffee and chocolate stout nose. Malty with some fruit. Tastes like a Diet Java Stout, but not unpleasantly so. A nice alternative stout to the strong chocolate route, but nothing special.

Bottle (12 oz). From a trade, thanks dresden! Black with a small beige head very little lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and hints of dark chocolate. Taste is about the same with a dark chocolate chocolate finish. Interesting creamy mouthfeel with a dry finish. Good Sweet Stout!

Black brown opaque body with off white cap of foam. Nose smoke, dark chocolate, coffee. Taste same notes with sweet coffee slight roasted finish. Mouthfeel milky with medium carbonation. Over hyped imo. Grows on you after warms up. Sweetness more noticeable mouthfeel creamier.

12 oz. bottle. It pours dark brown with a fine tan head. The aroma is a little on the weak side with light notes of roasted coffee, raisins, anise and a hint of toffee sweetness. The flavor is sweet with mild notes of soda pop, but cut nicely with some dense roasted malt, toffee, and only light notes of fig and dates. The mouthfeel is soft and pretty thick. Nice beer.

12 oz. bottle from The Party Source, Bellevue, KY. Served at cellar temperature and it still very weak nose of roasted chocolate malt. Good thing the flavor is nice. Smooth creamy texture with a drying affect. Flavor is rich roasted malt, chocolate and sugar. Some light coffee nuances. Lactose sugar is used here without a doubt. This beer is one-dimensional but that one dimension is done really well. I’d love to try this on Nitro.
