Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

Ok I love this beer. I could drink it all day long. Pours nice and black with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, malty, cereal. Flavor is smooth, rich and balanced. tastes of coffee, vanilla, malt. What a brew.

Comes out of the tap a deep opaque sable with a thick tan head. Rich, smoky, mocha aroma fills the nostrils and hollers "Drink me!" Smoky coffee and chocolate flavor has yeasty and toffee hints. Texture is thick, firm and oily, leaving a lively tingle. It leaves a nice roast coffee finish. A must for all stout fans.

Black with a big frothy brown head. Good lacing. A wonderful chocolate and roasted malts aroma. Medium to heavy body, has a nice chocolaty, vanilla, creamy taste with a light to medium bitter finsh. One of the best stouts Iíve had in a long time and at a very reasonable price.

Man do I hate dark beers. But this crap was good as hell. Strong so watch how fast and much you consume. Slight coffee/chocolate flavor which was surprisingly smooth to me. I did have about four other things before this though.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 Had this for the first time in 5 or so years last weekend. Once again, the hop character Bells adds makes this different than any other "sweet stout". Not really sweat at all. Great balance, to me a perfect middle ground between an RIS and a milk stout.

If all of the gods of all of the religions made a stout, this might be it. I rate this the best of all of the Bells beers Iíve had, or of all the beer Iíve rated probably... Vanilla aroma, pours reddish/black with tan head around the edges... not as opaque as some of the Bells beers, or other stouts. Flavors of coffee and vanilla. I guess I could see how this is a seasonal beer (probably would not rate as high in the summer)... but by the fire, or as a dessert beer, this might be hard to beat. The Kalamazoo is very good, the expedition overrated in some aspects, this is underrated by a long shot.

Probably the best stout I have ever had... Silky, smooth, creamy, with a lovely cocoa-colored head (not too long lasting), an aroma of sweet nuts, vanilla, caramel, coffee, and malt, and an almost-opaque color. Drinking is the same, with a lot of vanilla, good hearty coffee, some sweetness, but little to no bitterness. Definitely a treat, to be had with dark chocolate or espresso cheesecake, savored in small sips once it has warmed a tad. Just lovely.

A great stout with a not so overpowering cream flavor to it. Pours great with very little, to no foam head, which is a little off white brown. Has a great nose of cream, chocolate, and coffee bean. Sits very well in your mouth and doesnít overpower the palate.
