grandridge (100), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA May 6, 2008 I was really expecting a lot more from this rated at 97%. It was smooth but lacking in flavor. I thought this was the weakest Bells I’ve tried. How this can be rated right below Rogue chocolate stout for sweet stout I don’t know. Aroma is roasted coffee with hints of bittersweet chocolate. Mouthfeel watery and flavor leaves you wanting more. I thought this was an alright beer but not solid and definitely not top three percent in the world.
MaltDawg (180), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 4, 2008 Off taps at Capital Ale House. Dark almost black with small tan fine head.
Chocolate and roast malt aroma. Rich creamy body. Moderately bitter and slightly sour with coffee chocolate and roast coming through in the finish Eleventh11Man (7), Minnesota, USA does not count Jul 3, 2008 Pours a very silky black, with a very nice head. Very sweet aroma, almost coffee? Taste is sweet and a mildly smokey. A great beer for its style Beerman6686 (504), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a nice black color with a thin to normal tan head. Aroma is very sweet, chocolate, and some java notes. Flavor is also very sweet, is much like the description, a sweeter, less bitter/dry kalamazoo stout. shackinetics (108), Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a dark iodine color with thin mocha head. Sweet roasted chocolatey coffee notes with thick, syrupy and very smooth mouth feel. Good to great stout. DocHop (165), College Park, Maryland, USA Jun 30, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with a small, light brown head. Smells like a lighter Kalamazoo. Aroma is lightly sweet chocolate, espresso, and caramel. Taste is good, very creamy, the start is light chocolate, and turns a little bitter sweet as it finishes with some coffee. I guess I was expecting a little more.
