blklab2007 (570), Connecticut, USA Apr 8, 2008 bottle stamped 8150 on the label poured a dark jet black color with a thick one finger head of tan with great retention. aroma has roasted coffee, dark malt, some over ripe fruit, dark chocolate, and sweet cream. mouth feel is a medium with a heavy dose of carbonation for the style frothing the flavors across. flavor has burnt roasted coffee, toffee, malted chocolate, and a sweetness that is done at the right level. light touch of bitterness leads to a finish with sweetness and loads of flavor and character. this stout is very good for the style as some thin out and get watered down but this brings on the flavors nicely.
adamlangolf (6), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA does not count Oct 13, 2008 Full of Malts, caramel, some roasted coffee and a little bit chocolate. Creamy but not that syrup crap many Stout makers are passing off. Absolutely delicous. Just sampled a fresh batch from Oct. 08. It think it’s even better this year... Taverner (483), San Ramon, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Much drier than most sweet stouts I’ve had - still it’s an amazing, smoky concoction that has notes of chocolate, smoke, sesame and a very light coffee touch. Creamy and sweet on the finish - yet dry in the mouthfeel. hombrepalo (507), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle @ Maproom. Pours very dark blackish, with a great head and great lacing. Smells of coffee, prunes, dark chocolate, cognac, and licorice. Tastes very roasty and creamy malty. Finishes very smooth, with a creamy, roasty flavor. Very bold and a very nice beer, just not as good as an imperial but probably the best sweet stout I’ve had.
BeerBunker (106), Burbank, Illinois, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours dark brown with a quickly dissapating tan head. Aroma is of toasty malts, caramel, dairy creamer, and some weak coffee. Taste is malts and hints of chocolate complimented by coffee and a lingering creamy sweetness. Very creamy mouthfeel, but a tad too watery. It’s good, without being overly unique. Moggman (58), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours thick brown with tan head. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, creamy and thick. Finishes malty. Very hearty beer for winter drinking.
