3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 3, 2009 Thanks Matt.Chilled. La Fin glass. Upon opening the bottle,I sat it down, and could smell the aroma. Huge aroma. Copper with orange hues. Streaming bubbles rising to the top which sets a fat head. Strong tropical fruit and resinous hop aromas. Faint malt in the aroma with a bit of alcohol. Thick, smooth texture. Upfront bread and strong pine. Following are slick malts and slight alcohol burn. Really is very smooth. Finish is long with woody, floral, resinous hops. There is a annoying lingering alcohol burn though, which becomes more evident upon warming to the point of almost being overbearing and pretty much dominates the flavor. A 2 hearted ale times 2,almsot 3. A real palate killer and alcoholic DIPA .Without the big alcohol presence, this would be rated quite a few points higher for me.
Having a second bottle the aroma seemed even better. Still, this beer is so dominated by the alcohol itís almost not really enjoyable to drink.

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral/pine hops, tropical fruit, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, tropical fruit, and citrus (notably orange & grapefruit); Finish is bitter and dry; Not a light weight - good!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Lighter Aroma of pine, resin, pith, and something brighter and cleaner I assume is the Jade. Flavor is aggressively grapefruit and resin bitter, sweet but not nearly enough. Feel is just a wrecked palate. Too much really

Bottle. Sweet smell of tangerine, pineapple, and malts. Nice golden color with lots of lacing. Tastes of grapefruit, mandarin oranges, hops, and smooth malt. Well balanced with a creamy texture and lingering hop bitterness. Very good, but not as complex as the Mars.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A hazy dark orange/copper color with half a finger of white head. Smells of citrus, especially orange, a slight funk, floral. An extreme hop bitter up front that hits you at both the front and back of the tongue, demolishing your taste buds, mid sip you get the citrus, orange, lemon, a little pineapple and then ends with just a touch of caramel malt and some vanilla, along with a ton more bitter. Alcohol well hidden, good balance, west coast bitter for sure. Medium mouthfeel. Worthy of the style.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2014 bottle. Hazy golden-orange with a white head. Nice sticky lacing. Grass, grapefruit and mango with pine and a little malt. Sharp floral bitterness at the start that gives way to some grassy then pine bitterness as it settles on the tongue. Some alcohol among all the bitter. The little bit of mango and malt have to be searched out. Medium-full, semi-viscous mouthfeel. The taste is a little shocking at first but it draws you back for sip after sip.

Big hops here and are the showcase, with the malt bill very much in the background. Citrus flavor with a dry bitter finish. Some hop spice notes and warmth from the alcohol.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Arielís place. Thanks Tom C. Slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of citric hops, slightly piney, a bit of alcohol note and a bit of malt. Sweetish malty flavor with some slightly stale citric and piney hops, a bit resinous, finishes with strong bitterness and an alcoholic hint. Medium-bodied, kinda chewy.

BIG grapefruit, mango and pineapple. Just huge. The aroma just filled the air. Was like salivating waiting to try this one. Taste is a blast of grapfruit, resinous hops, pine and pineapple. Massive bitterness. This is a big beer. Absolutely awesome. I havenít been so excited to try a beer in a while so this was a really pleasant surprise.
