Our take on the West Coast-style Double India Pale Ale, The Oracle places hop intensity first & foremost, making only the slightest concession to malt & balance. The fireworks start with the floral aromatic punch of two separate dry-hop sessions with Amarillo and NZ Pacific Jade. Resinous, citrusy hop flavors mixed with aggressive bitterness from a massive kettle addition deliver on that aromatic promise.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Tom C. Clear orange color. Sweet fruity and malty aroma. Sweet with malty, citrusy and earthy hops notes, strong bitterness, sticky and slightly alcoholic.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (bottled August 8, 2014). Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Awesome aroma of grapefruit rind, tangerine, and wet grass. Taste of bitter citrus hops, pine needles, grass, and just a touch of sweet malts. Lingering bitterness on the palate but not too cloying. 10% ABV is well hidden. An awesome DIPA and one of the best I have ever tried.

Bottle pour - cloudy golden/amber pour with frothy head. Aroma is very piney/resinous hop forward...mild malt backbone...some floral hops mixed in. Flavor is somewhat one dimensional - very hop heavy with resinous hops biting at every opportunity. The hops are very clean and delicious, but where’s that malt backbone I’m looking for...well hidden for sure! Slight hint of some tropical fruit and the lightest of sweet caramel on the side. Chewy, thick palate. Good beer, but would like to see more to be honest...

Bottle. Pour is light amber with a medium white head. Aroma is resinous hops with a little orange, a bit a caramel malt, and light floral notes. Flavor is very true to nose with stinging resinous hops dominating. Also orange marmalade notes and light background malt. Hides alcohol well but is a bit one dimensional. Very resinous.

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral/pine hops, tropical fruit, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, some fruit, and nice citrus; Finish is bitter and dry; Not a light weight - pretty good.

Bottle [thanks to mista] shared with Joes and Judyvv. Clear yellow to orange color, full sized off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, hops, slightly resin and pine but it doesn’t convince me really.. Taste malts, hops, very bitter, no fruityness. Decent body and carbonation. Well I must be honest, this is quite disappointing.

Lighter Aroma of pine, resin, pith, and something brighter and cleaner I assume is the Jade. Flavor is aggressively grapefruit and resin bitter, sweet but not nearly enough. Feel is just a wrecked palate. Too much really

Bottle. Sweet smell of tangerine, pineapple, and malts. Nice golden color with lots of lacing. Tastes of grapefruit, mandarin oranges, hops, and smooth malt. Well balanced with a creamy texture and lingering hop bitterness. Very good, but not as complex as the Mars.

A hazy dark orange/copper color with half a finger of white head. Smells of citrus, especially orange, a slight funk, floral. An extreme hop bitter up front that hits you at both the front and back of the tongue, demolishing your taste buds, mid sip you get the citrus, orange, lemon, a little pineapple and then ends with just a touch of caramel malt and some vanilla, along with a ton more bitter. Alcohol well hidden, good balance, west coast bitter for sure. Medium mouthfeel. Worthy of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 bottle. Hazy golden-orange with a white head. Nice sticky lacing. Grass, grapefruit and mango with pine and a little malt. Sharp floral bitterness at the start that gives way to some grassy then pine bitterness as it settles on the tongue. Some alcohol among all the bitter. The little bit of mango and malt have to be searched out. Medium-full, semi-viscous mouthfeel. The taste is a little shocking at first but it draws you back for sip after sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
