Our take on the West Coast-style Double India Pale Ale, The Oracle places hop intensity first & foremost, making only the slightest concession to malt & balance. The fireworks start with the floral aromatic punch of two separate dry-hop sessions with Amarillo and NZ Pacific Jade. Resinous, citrusy hop flavors mixed with aggressive bitterness from a massive kettle addition deliver on that aromatic promise.

Bottle. Pours a clear straw-amber with minimal head. Aroma of citrus hops. The flavor is similar - a real hop bomb, with notes of grapefruit, grass, and spruce. A bit of sweetness, but not much malt character. A solid hop-forward double IPA, but a bit disappointing given my (Hopslam-influenced) expectations.

Bottle. Crisp orangey amber brown. Bright citrus nose. A slight sweetness pairs with bright floral hop notes and hop bitterness. Like Hopslam’s bigger brother.

At a tasting, thanks Tom C, small stable bubbly head, a little hazy lightish orange colour, aroma of spice and orange marmalade, strong flavour of orange marmalade and orange peel, with a hint of spice strong and a bit coarse bitterness. One dimensional, much too old.

Location: Bottle shared by jcos, 9/25/14

Aroma: It has a nose of citrus/grapefruit and resin hops, with some floral notes as well.
Appearance: It pours a clear orange-gold color with a small white head.
Flavor: The flavor is quite nicely bitter, with enough sweetness for some balance.
Palate: The body is medium, it has a good, somewhat sticky mouthfeel, and a fairly dry finish.
Overall Impression: This is an excellent beer. Really quite enjoyed drinking. Another outstanding offering from Bells, which came as no shock to me. Thanks again for the share Kramer!

Thanks again to my cousin for this show-closer. Oracle is a super intense hoppy brew. It was a little too much for me, but I respect it, and it would definitely please a hop fanatic.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Tom C. Clear amber, white film. A little stink, then ripe orange in the nose, very bitter and a little stale taste, soft carbonation, medium-bodied, hoppy, bitter finish.

Pour from a bottle is a nice amber orange with a white head while the aroma is nice tropical and floral. Taste is full of citrus and pine. Leaves a nice bitter and dry after taste.

Pours a hazy copper with one finger headband heavy lacing. Resinous hop aroma with hint of tropical fruit and hint of pine. Moderate to heavy bitterness. Full bodied and moderate carbonation. Long bitter finish. This is an intense beer.
