Our take on the West Coast-style Double India Pale Ale, The Oracle places hop intensity first & foremost, making only the slightest concession to malt & balance. The fireworks start with the floral aromatic punch of two separate dry-hop sessions with Amarillo and NZ Pacific Jade. Resinous, citrusy hop flavors mixed with aggressive bitterness from a massive kettle addition deliver on that aromatic promise.

Picked up a few bottles on Dan’s Bachelor Party Extend Weekend trip through MI last fall, somehow they’re all gone now and somehow I never got the rating up. Pours relatively clear dark golden tint. Nose is very fresh/sweet hops on the tropical fruit/piney side. Flavor is a crisp and refreshing hop fix with mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and enough pine to round the hop profile out perfectly. I was very impressed with this offering and would love to get some more fresh someday. The abv is very hidden. This is the closest thing I’ve had to PTE this side of the Mississippi.

12 oz bottle dated 7/26/16. Pours hazy dark golden orange with a big rocky white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel malt and fruit with piney hops and some fusel alcohol.

The flavor is sweet caramel and toffee malt with some fruit that quickly gives way to a big harsh piney resiny hop bitterness with some noticeable alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, I was hoping for Hopslam but too much harsh alcohol and bitterness.

12 oz. looks like it was bottled 07/26/2016. Translucent amber with a big sticky foam on top. Smells of yeasty white bread, flowery orange, mild citrus zest, white grape and herbal resin. Tastes of orange flesh, honey, evergreen resin, bread, citrus zest and peppery green herb. Medium body is soft, dry and lightly astringent. Medium carbonation and just a bit of warmth from the abv.

Out of the bottle. Caramel malt takes center stage here. Slight orange. Pours a mostly clear orange with dusted white topping across the top. Taste is slightly cloying malt, a little tingling on the sides of the tongue. Low bitterness. Hops really get overtaken by the malt and the residual sweetness. Looking forward to my next bottle to see if this gets an upgraded score.

Golden pour with nice fluffy head. Caramel and pine on the hose. Sweet, about sticky, with caramel. Soapy pine and resin. Lots of alcohol burn. I love Bells, but this is just okay. Maybe my bottle was a little dated...it tasted like it might be.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange color with a small head. Sweet tropical fruits and caramel on the nose, resinous hops and some mild alcohol. Lots of resinous hops on the flavor with pale malts and sweet fruits, alcohol comes through a bit too much for me, otherwise decent. Good amount of malt.

Appearance: Slightly hazy copper/dark amber; medium white head. Aroma: Citrus fruits followed by some piney hops. Taste: Arrives with a big hop kick; so West Coast with all the bitter piney, citrus fruit peels. Malty & subtlely sweet middle but finishes dry with more hops. Palate: Light and crisp; hops are tingly up front. Dry as hell at the end. Overal: A good example of the style of DIPA; easily drinkable while the alcohol is well hidden even at 10%. I wonder why this beer isn’t more widely available year-round.

Bottle. Golden orange color. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, caramelised malt and tropical fruit. Taste has fresh pineapple, mild bitter pine, tropical fruit, mango and soft caramelised malt. High abv well hidden. This is great, way better than hopslam.
