3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tart, oak, a little musty. Nose is lighter than the flavor. A lot in the vein of JP La Roja. Surprisingly good.

pours a clear ruby red with orange edges a tight off white head. The nose is fleshy, meaty, oxidized. Sweet berries, light vinous note, and faint dusty Brett. The taste is a bit better, oxidized sour cherries, fleshy meat, vinous. High carbonation, faintly dry, a bit heavy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Sean - thanks! Clear, copper/cherry pour with a slick of off-white foam. Aroma is light tart and sour with cherry and a very soft balsamic. Taste is pleasant and somewhat light tart and sour up front followed by cherry or perhaps even currant and then some light sour through the finish. Bit of a tart reverb after each sip. Clean mouthfeel. Straight forward and enjoyable sour.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Courtesy of dcschiller. 750mL bottle 169/370 pours mahogany with tan head. The aroma has soft spicy oak, a bit of red wine and then a mild sour to tartness. The taste has some tartness moving into sour and the soured citrus. Into the finish a bit of red wine and almost chemically tartness and yeastiness is noticed. This is pretty good and has some nice depth but feels it is either sort of chemically enhanced or just could use some age to come together better.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle via local trade. Batch K10859, bottle 265/826. Pours a mostly clear, deep red-amber color with a small ring for a head. Aroma of tart berries, red wine, oak, plums, brown sugar, and toffee. Flavor of berries, grapes, oak, leaves, caramel, and balsamic vinegar. Light-medium bodied, with a tart, vinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really nice palate; smooth, balanced, and a great sipper. The nose is almost subdued, though. Maybe that will open up a bit in the coming months. Excellent sour.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes. First reviewed 8/29/2011. Served on tap in a cervoise at the Great Taste of the Midwest.
My pour is an amber raspberry color with a delicate fluffy white head. The head bubbles away, but a little bit of lace sticks on the side of the glass.
Lots of lactic sourness and some Brett in the nose. Some cherry notes, and a little bit of musty oak as well.
This is a good example of what I look for in a sour mash beer. Some light sweetness up front, but the flavor becomes progressively more sour. Tart and refreshing, with lactic acid undertones and a general berry fruit sour flavor. The finish has a light, lingering sour flavor.
The carbonation is on the lighter side, but combined with the sour flavor, it has some zing to it. Crisp, a little bit vinegary, and refreshing. Medium bodied.
I was impressed by Bellís wild ale venture. With the flurry of beers served at this event, it was hard to sit down and really enjoy it, but I hope to be able to have it again.
