On tap at Bells. Definitely not my favorite style. Very tart with dry finish. Pretty good for the style.

It’s wild...lot going on from sour funk wood basement mold cheese. But very well balanced with all these flavs. Enjoyable beer. Really liking these sours.

Bottle received in trade. Thank you rfraga7! Pours tiny hazy reddish dark wooden brown with a rather small frothy and fizzy offwhite head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sour and vinous with grains, moist wood, red wine, damp hay, moist moss, lemon juice, dark grapes, barnyard, sour milk, raspberries, blackberries and hints of red wine vinegar. Taste is sour and tannic with dark bread, lemon juice, raisins, damp hay, moist wood, tar, moist soil, dark grapes, grapefruit rinds, horse blanket, barnyard, sour milk and hints of red wine vinegar and raspberries. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, tannic astringent and medium bodied. Finish is sour and vinous with dark bread, lemon juice, red wine, barnyard, dark grapes, moist soil, moist wood, grapefruit rinds, raspberries, raisins and hints of red wine vinegar. Refreshing, vinous and surprisingly complex. Take your time and enjoy...

Tap sampler, Bell’s Eccentric Café, 31/viii/13. Aroma of vindgar and vanilla, taste of oaked fruit vinegar, a lemonade fruitiness, grapes and red berries. Nice and surprisingly authentic wild ale, leaning heavily towards a mellower Rodenbach or a more straightforward Gouden Band. Has some complexity, but lacks the arresting depth of its Belgian examples. Nevertheless jumped out from the never-ending complimentary flight and demanded its time.

Bottle: deep ruby and mahogany color with a tan-ish tinted head that barely forms - it only slightly bubbles up and is gone within a few moments. Aroma is very nice vinous notes, tart grape skins, black cherry, wet oak, white wine booze, and plenty of underlying grassy notes. Taste includes a nice amount of acidity with grapes, cherries, vinous oak, white wine vinegar notes, a touch of wine-like booze, and some light horsey and wet cork-ish Brett notes near the finish. Lasting tannin dryness and acidic tartness on the palate in the aftertaste. A clear winner from Bells. I’m amazing at how well they approached this style. Something I’ll always have a glass of when I visit the brewery.

Bottle. Pours a hazy red with minimal head. Very tart nose, slightly acetic. Dry woodiness comes in late to blend well with the tartness. Really good.

Going through some old notes. This one was from Maduro in Madison, the day before the Great Taste of the Midwest. Hazy reddish pour. Tart nose. Acetic and lactic taste. Oak is prominent. Tart and still a bit sweet.
