3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to my buddy Mike for sending this one over.
A - Pours a dark reddish oak color. 2 finger off white head
S - Nose is like a barleywine and an IPA crawled inside of the glass. Loads of brown sugar sweetness, hints of citra, grapefruit and pineapple.
T - Very sweet with tropical fruits and mango up front. Middle is a malt bomb with burnt sugar, graham cracker and floral notes. Finish is pine needle.
M - Very heavy body. Lots of booziness in this one. Slight chest burner on the finish
O - Sort of undwhelming in the piney / malty category but the GAlaxy and Citra hops really shine through!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clean auburn w/ foamy beige head. Tons of lacing that lasts. Aroma is big blast of resiny dank hops w/ some papaya in there. Rich and buttery malt profile, really interesting and refreshing relative to the typical sticky caramel messes of many DIPAís. Diverse hop profile of equal parts resin, dank, and pine. Nice residual bitterness without being too oppressive. Really enjoyed this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours cloudy brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma is light chocolatey malts and caramel. Taste is sweet but mellow pine hops. There are definitely malts in the background with a chocolate/carob flavor. This beer gets more of a malt character as it warms and has an oily mouthfeel. Not bad, just a little subdued.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle @ home via trade with DrSilverworm. Thanks! Pours a bit hazy, dark red orange appearance with a cream colored head. Rich toasty caramel malty, a bit herbal/woody, mild citrus fruity, a bit boozy, dull herbal hoppy aroma. Somewhat spicy, herbal/green hoppy, a bit chewy, slight ethanol, toasty caramel malty, chewy yeasty flavor with a bit more booze on the finish. I imagine this would have been a little better fresh since the hops have faded here and while this is a bit too strong and boozy for my taste, itís not bad.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Golden pour, moderate head, aroma is mostly malt with carmel notes and a piney, resinous hop aroma. The flavor is abundant malt, with a hop presence to keep things in balance. The malt is not obviously complex, but when it warms up a bit some nice flavor come through in the background, making this an interesting brew. The alcohol is in there too, but not in a big way, and it works well with the flavor. This finishes just as balanced as it starts, and the flavors hang in there well, so itís interesting right through the finish. Substantial mouthfeel but not thick and not overly sweet, though perhaps it pushes the limit there a bit. This reminds me of a balanced barley wine, except that it is very easy to drink. Nicely done.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A buddy of mine lucked into this beer at a Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids. He saw it behind the counter and luckily the woman working had no clue that she wasnít suppose to sell it and let him purchase a six pack of this beer and he was nice enough to share a bottle with me.
Categorized as an American Strong Ale or an Imperial Red This One Goes to 11 was rather obscure on the market this year. I know this beer comes with a hefty price tag but I do think a wider release of this beer would be great because this beer packed a ton of flavor and would be a definite buy again. Nice thick head with tons of lacing, the aroma of the centennial, simcoe, and mosiac hops stand out with grapefruit and citrus, followed nicely by the caramel and toasted aromas of the malts. Flavor resembles the aroma with a deceptively smooth finish.
Bells really brings their A game with this beer and they continue to impress with their limited release beers. Not as talked about as Hopslam is when it comes out, this beer should be on your list of beers to try, especially if you are into reds, ambers, or Belgian strongs, but watch out for that ABV, it can sneak up on you.
From the brewery:
ďThis One Goes to 11 Ale opens with bright, juicy aromas such as tropical fruits & ripe cherries, largely derived from massive kettle & dry-hop additions of Southern Hemisphere hop varieties such as Galaxy, Motueka, and Summer. The citrus & resinous pine notes of the Pacific Northwest hop family are also well represented, making their presence known through Simcoe, Citra, and the newly released Mosaic varietal, just to name a few. A wide range of specialty malts anchor the hops to this IMPERIAL RED ALE, contrasting the assertive bitterness & juicy aromatics with a robust, toasty depth of flavor. Fermented with Bellís signature house ale yeast, This One Goes to 11 Ale finishes with a lingering warmth.Ē
STYLE: American Strong/Imperial Red
PURCHASED AT: A Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids.
Pour: Amber pour with a thick white head; great lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Grapefruit, caramel, toffee.
Taste: Very well balanced between the hops and malts, very drinkable for 11% beer.
My Recommendation: Find it, try it. A great beer to try and if you are new to this style this is a good place to start.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is a bit astringent and chemically but still great hop explosion in there. Taste is a bit too sweet but understandable for the abv. Hops are huge and bitter and balancing the intense sweetness somewhat. Enjoyable.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Courtesy of Skyview. Copper color with a small head. Strong orange and citrus aroma with a bit of lemon. Very strong bitterness. Light caramel and citrus flavor, but just a juicy hop character.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Discount Liquors in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Pours a hazy brownish amber colored brew with a thick off-white head that leaves behind some excellent lacing and a cream top. Aroma of 3 Cís hops. A touch of grapefruit, caramel and toffee. Taste is medium to full bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, citrus and floral hops, a hint of grapefruit and a touch of toffee. Taste is quite smooth with a balanced caramel and West Coast hop presence. Alcohol is well hidden.
