COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Per bellsbeer.com/blog , "This One Goes to 11 Ale opens with bright, juicy aromas such as tropical fruits & ripe cherries, largely derived from massive kettle & dry-hop additions of Southern Hemisphere hop varieties such as Galaxy, Motueka, and Summer. The citrus & resinous pine notes of the Pacific Northwest hop family are also well represented, making their presence known through Simcoe, Citra, and the newly released Mosaic varietal, just to name a few. A wide range of specialty malts anchor the hops to this IMPERIAL RED ALE, contrasting the assertive bitterness & juicy aromatics with a robust, toasty depth of flavor. Fermented with Bell’s signature house ale yeast, This One Goes to 11 Ale finishes with a lingering warmth."

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/13/2012. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, floral, grass, light pine, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity of citrus/tropical hops and balanced dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, floral, grass, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity of juicy hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/hop flavor balance with zero cloying after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial red ale with age. All around great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle in Oct. 2012 and again late Dec 2013. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a thin beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, caramel, resiny, earthy, some citrus hops, herbal notes, fresh it was a bit hot, interesting enough and still not doing too bad.

12oz bottle thanks to Timbo
Pours clear dark golden with a medium sized off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of malty, caramel and ripe fruit. Tastes of caramel, sweet malt, woody and pine resin
A nice beer, close to a barleywine but lighter. No noted alcohols, smooth.

Aroma of caramel, butterscotch. Reminds me of a barley wine. Beautiful copper orange color. White head fades fast. A little syrupy in a good way. Taste is bitter piney resinous caramel. A nice sipper.

Vertical tasting provided by alexsdad06, 8000, 9000, 10000, and goes to 11. Bottle pour copper. Nose some grassy and resin hop. Faint malt. Taste grassy hop up front. Fairly thick mouth. Sweet mid malt. Some spicy hop late. Actually the only one in the series that we drank the whole bottle.

12oz bottle from Capones. Dark amber with an off white head. Reminds me of an old ale but slightly mellower with a red/amber tinge - lots of malts, old resin hops, boozy, some pit fruit and cherries lend an odd base to this, mild carbonation and moderate+ body, fruit, quite a bit on the finish that warms you up at the end. Interesting. And a last thought - pineapple of all things!

12oz bottle (why not 11oz?), packaged 9/13/12 (Rating number 1500 for me) - pours cloudy, deep amber with ivory head and capricious lacing. Nose is pine and grapefruit. Sip adds citrus fruit (sweet, tart, sour...), booze and yum. Chewy. Quite bitter to say the least. This will be the last beer I drink until my allergies clear up (yay Ohio River valley). Thank you DrSilverworm for the gifts and allowing me to reach 1500 without having to go to the store.

From a bottle dated 9/12/13 into a snifter a golden amber with a thick cream head which dissipated into a nice creamy lace on the glass. Aroma is very tropical pineapple? Flavor is sweet malty delicious. Thinking dark cherry citrus. Malt is well balanced with the hoppy finish. As this brew warms it became even more flavorful. Happy to have held back a bottle. Definitely still a winner.

A: Dark Amber Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head, Decent Lacing S: Molasses, Sweet Bready Malts, Citrus T: Cherries, Pineapple, Sweet Bready Malts, Piney M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Drying Overall, pretty solid for the style and you dont get the booziness at all with a beer of 11% ABV, that pretty impressive on its own.
