India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2008 Pours a light amber with little head. Aroma is piney and sweet. Flavor is a hop lovers delight, with pineyness and citrus aplenty, very tart and bitter while at the same time feeling balanced and clean. I could drink this all night. After drinking a good deal of this, I have to say it is the benchmark of American IPAs. Astounding!

Bottle (12oz). Poured hazy gold, plenty of bubbles, large solid lasting foamy beige head. Sweet hoppy aroma - pine, grapefruit, apricot, pineapple and spruce, quite sharp - plus enough malt to make note of; there was a brief rush of yeast when I popped it. The taste is really muted - fruit and citrus/evergreen hops dominate, but are quite restrained - it does finish long, and bitter, but never aggressive; the malt is lightly toasted and also just murmurs along too. Mouthfeel is very creamy, lightly astringent, I felt it had solid body for an IPA. If you want a solid IPA but are reluctant to tackle the sharply high IBU Ruinations of the world, give this one a try. Recommended.

unimpressive beer for bell’s standards. pours light yellow and hazy with decent head. starts off with fruity textures and ends with a bland bitterness of a generic beer.

Bottle via trade with captaincougar. Pours a murky copper color with a big white head. Resinous, pine and citrus aromas. Bitter with a honey-like maltiness. Grapefruit and grass notes. Lingering bitter finish.

Smells floral.. hoppy... like a good IPA should... almost of pine. Beautiful light amber coloring... Creamy head with pretty lacing. POW! The bitterness hits you right in the jaw. Bitter in the front and in the back. Too bitter for my tastes, but perfectly characteristic of the style. I am rating this higher than I like it, mostly because I know what a good IPA should taste like, and this is it.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2008 bottle. This has the appearance of a solid pale ale: sturdy hazy copper, nice lasting, dense head. I really enjoy the floral aroma. It’s very fresh and exotic with plenty of rather pleasing outdoorsy scents. Flavor is quite well balanced between the peppery hops and smooth sweet malts, though still packs a little bit of a punch with bitterness. This is an enjoyable beer for most occassions.

Man, this stuff is good on tap. The aroma is completely full of citrusy hops. Flavor is rich of lemon, pine, grapefruit. Malts are just present enough to attempt some kind of counteraction. Even just licking my lips after this one is bitter. Good, clean, rich IPA. Excellent.

Draught at Yacht Club: Pours a reddish color with a nice off-white head. Hops are all over the place on this. The bitterness cuts like a knife and adds a full citrus flavor. The sweeter side of the beer is bready and only slightly fruity. This is a no-holds-barred IPA.

Bottle. Pours rich honey color with a big fluffy white head that leaves good lacing. The aroma is smooth fruity hops with traces of wood and malt. The flavor is very well balanced. Pleasantly bitter and still quite smooth. Earthy and fruity hops mingle in a playground of mild toasty malt. Definitely a good drinkin’ beer.

Bottle. Didn’t know it was an IPA when I ordered it. But, waitress said I’d like it. Aroma was a nice citrus almost pine scent. Not knowing it was an IPA, the bitterness caught me off guard. But, for an IPA, it wasn’t that bitter. Rather light.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2006 Batch 7196 bottle. Aroma of piney and floral hops, with a little bit of grapefruityness. Smells freakin’ awesome. Slight sweet malts also noted. Hazy light golden with a small white head. Big floral hops in flavor, with a fair amount of bitterness midway, and slight bitterness in the finish taken over with a sweet homemade bread maltiness. Very well balanced for an IPA. Very softly carbonated. Will be getting this one again!
