India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, citrus, grape, floral and hint of pine. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter with a long fruity, slightly dry and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2004 Dark golden color with a rich lacey white head. Huge hoppy bouquet with floral attributes. Very well balanced malty body and tart bitterness. The finish is dry and crisp, and the higher abv is undectable. I have yet to have a bad Bells beer.

A Mes rate: 355ml bottle at Steve’s Xmas booze up.
Utterly gorgeous amber gold colour with a stunning white head. Really close to a 5. Outfunkingstanding aroma. I really could sniff at this all day. So so nosable. Incredible hoppage. Grassy, floral, piney, spruce and everything else. A masterclass of an American hop aroma. Words can not do it justice. More show stopping hops in the flavour. Resinous and maybe a little caramel. Light sweetness. Outstanding bitter finish with amazing length. Bloody marvelous beer!

Keg, On Tap, Whole Foods, Columbus Circle, 19/02/14. Hazed orange with a creamy white top. Muted frozen peach and flowers aroma. Booze and honey-sodden chill; peach, flowers, orange squash, anise and almond with the alcohol showing. Better as it warms with lavender and mint hints. A bit heady and lacking aromatics. OK, but inexplicably highly rated on this evidence.

Amber-orange pour with a creamy-white head that receded rather quickly. Formed a light spotty layer on top, and nice intricate lacing as it went down. Dense floral, piney, and citrusy aromas hit the nose, and were very pleasant. At first taste, hops dance across the palate.. this had a light and lively mouthfeel. Solid malt backbone held up the citrus and grassy flavors well. Refreshing citrus finish. This is a great IPA!

I haven’t had this in a while, it was the first IPA I really loved. It is nice and citrusy with a medium to low bitterness.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit/summer fruit aroma. Grapefruit, pine, caramel flavor. Nice hoppiness, but could tone down the malt just a bit. Medium bodied. Lingering grapefruit and caramel.

Tasted from bottle at Nat. Homebrew Conference 06/23/06. Golden color with white head. The aroma was strong and all hops. I could smell floral and an orange citrus note. The flavor was all hops too. It tastes just as it smells. Nice round hop flavor cut with some citrus hop bitterness. Really nice beer.

Bottle from daknole (thanks!). Pours a hazy orange gold with a large beiged white head, leaving lots of nice lacing as the head settles out. Loads of floral and citrus hops on the nose, and a little bit of toast. Medium to thick creamy body, with lots of sweet malt. Nice grapefruit finish, but it takes a little while to come to the forefront, developing rather slowly. This one was from batch 8678, packaged on August 13, 2008, so about half a year of age on this, so I may have to see if I can lay hands on a less than one month old one at some point and re-rate it, as I thoroughly enjoyed it, but would love to taste it even fresher.

On tap at OTH. Pours hazy blonde, thick white head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity and floral. Taste, hoppy with nice grapefruit / citrus notes. Light bitter finish, but overall remains a lot sweeter than the West coast ipa’s.
