On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Pours a hazy light brown with a almost no head to speak of. Aroma is filled with bourbon, wood, and wheat. Taste is fantastic! Bourbon, scotch, wood, caramel and grains. It’s as smooth as 18 year Jameson. I love this beer and would buy and drink it constantly if it were available in bottles.

Mostly clear amber body, small off-white head. The nose is bourbon, golden raisins, along with floral and citrus hops. Moderately sweet taste, lightly bitter with plenty of bourbon, golden fruits, vanilla and light spice. Medium/full body is very soft with light carbonation. Better than expected and interesting.

On tap at the cafe: The bourbon barrel was obvoius in this one. That said, I can’t determine if it was a good thing or a bad thing. While it was definitely strange and noticable in this wheat, it did provide something different. I don’t think I would like this as a standard but the uniqueness of it did make for an enjoyable glass...though, one was enough.

Got it at the Eccentric cafe. Pretty cool idea, taking a somewhat boring wheat ale and aging it in bourbon barrels. The result is a lot of whisky and oak in the nose, and a lot of whisky in the taste. Basically, takes the light wheat notes out of the beer and replaces them with bourbon. I liked it.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Points to Bell’s for the immense stones and creativity to turn their crowd-pleaser wheat into something more daring! Poured headless and dark brown with a massive oak aroma. Flavor was malty and tannic with a strong alcohol presence. Decent, but not essential, entry into Bell’s impressive c.v.

On tap at eccentric cafe. From a plastic glass! (beer garden). Aroma was huge bourbon oak with some distant sweet wheat. Taste was much the same. This beer, while I could tell there might be a nice strong wheat beer underneath, didn’t even attempt to stand up to the barrel. Totally dominated.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2008 Eccentric cafe. Poured a light shade of copper with barely any head. The aroma on this one made it seem like it was aged in scotch barrels. The flavor of this was amazing. It tastes nothing like regular oberon, but instead carries a big oaky-scotch like flavor with a big caramel malty backbone. Almost reminds me of an barley wine. I have to say this is one of the more unique and creative beers I’ve had in a while. I really enjoyed it.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe, served in a tulip snifter. Deep opaque brown body (not the medium yellow-orange of regular Oberon), thin off-white head. Aroma of buttery oak and little else, in part due to cold serving temperature. Oak dominates the body, with wet hay, almost pineappley wheat notes in the background. Alcohol notes apparent but not strong. A little bit funky, but Oberon doesn’t carry the oak as well as their darker, higher alcohol beers. I prefer the regular stuff.
