Pre-GTMW at Maduro. Amber-orange in color. Aroma is smoked cheese and fruity malt. Smokey flavor starts out moderate and salty and evens out, showcasing the malty, clean backbone. Mild charcoal ash in the middle. Mild fruity malt and hop finish. Trailing smoke.

8/10/12. On tap at the GTMW pre-party. Clear light amber with a small khaki head. Light smoke and fruitiness in the aroma with a parallel flavor that shows a bit more caramel and breadiness. Not bad.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
tap at Sea Biscuit on Mackinac Island - Pours light amber with a dense, one finger off-white head. It has a very smoky aroma that brings bacon to mind. Mmmm... bacon. The flavor is sweet and smoky. This medium bodied brew is not complex. Itís sweet. Itís smoky. The latter lingers long on the palate.

Sample on tap at Eccentric. Body is a nice deep gold and aromas are lightly smokey with a little odd bandaid or something. Flavor is much better than the nose. Itís fairly sweet and caramel based up front and the smoke doesnít come in till late but then it lingers for a long time and it just makes me smile.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Samís, Durham, at the smokefest. Nice deep golden pour, pretty standard looking lager, well carbonated. Mild smoke to accompany the malts in the nose. Taste is pretty decent for a style I donít generally care for, and the modest smoke actually brought out traces of complexity in the malt profile.

Tasted on 6/8/2012 at SAVOR 2012. Solid smoked beer, but was overshadowed by the earlier Surly Smoked Lager I had in the night. Still, a solid beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Eccentric Cafť. Clear amber with a white head that leaves a white sheet of lace. Aroma of smoked meats, grains and malt. Taste of salty smoked meat, peat, pale malt, light caramel and a touch of rye. Sudsy body has a touch too much smoked malt for me.

Draft to taster at Bellís. Looks like a good lager. Smell is virtually nonexistent. Tastes pretty good; not overly Smokey. Nice on the palate too. Solid for the style.
