Light orange color with a thin off white head and some weepy lacing. The nose is very grapefruit like with hints of spiced fruitcake from the yeast. Nice sweet malt flavor with spice (coriander/citrus). You can taste the alcohol and a bitter bite at the end. Very well made and refreshing (for 8%!) be beerguy101 (3872), Newark, California, USA

Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is citrus, fruity and grapefruity. A bed bodied wheat wine. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are citrusy and grapefruity, Touch of lemon, orange and orange peel. Touch of wheat and grass. Reminds me more of a high ABV wheat beer or a wit than a barley wine, Some banana and clove. Interesting, but kind of weird it is the high end (most ingredients) of the wheat series, but it comes off a weird hybrid of wheat and barley wine/ Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2006 Aroma is citrus and grapefruit with a squeeze of lemon and a dash of licorice. The flavor is licorice with some grapefruit, pear, apple, lemon, and a smidge of orange. Mouthfeel is light and crisp and creamy almost IPA like. appearance is cloudy but not opaque orange with quick to rouse but also quick diminishing head. Hangover (765), Atlanta, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 10, 2006 Barleywine? Banana, clove, wheat and yeast aroma. I want to pinpoint some fruit in there, but I’m really only getting pear. Taste is initially very peppery and spicy. Creamy middle with a lot of wheat and alcohol. Some fruity esters in the finish but really more of that creamy yeastiness. IMHO the only thing putting this close to a barleywine is the abv. I’m thinking German hefe. Reminds me of Hacker-Pschorr just a bit less fruit and a lot more flavor all around. Don’t get me wrong, this stuff is good... I’m kind of lost to be honest. If you see it, try it.... how bout that? pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 9, 2006 Pours a pleasing slightly hazy orange gold with a considerable head for a barley wine. The nose is all wheat, banana and cloves, though there is an insidious sweetness, some creaminess, and a bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, though perhaps there is a touch too much CO2 for the style... then again, I’m not sure of the style here! Anyhow, the taste is really quite nice for a wheat beer. Sweet, with obvious malt. There’s again a good deal of that banana/cloves, but it doesn’t predominate like in most hops. there’s some definite alcohol kick to this, that finds its place with the slight bitterness of hops and a slight acidity. I really kind of enjoyed this, despite my general disklike of wheat beers. As an experiment, I left the yeast in the bottom of the bottle with an inch of beer, and for the second half of my glass, swirled the bottle’s contents and added it to my glass... the result is really rather pleasant. Smoother and creamier than sans yeast, though the banana/cloves nose is a bit stronger. tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2006 A clear yellow-orange beer with a small white head. It smells like an average wheat beer- bananas, cloves. I also smell pineapple and malt and apples. The flavour is more unique though, less citrusy. I taste apples, raisins but its also a bit spicey, and overall very sweet. A hard to describe aftertaste which is bitter and sweet. stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Nice crown on the wheat ale experiment. Sounds like they had a lot of fun putting this lineup together and I enjoyed sampling them. Poured a hazy orange gold with a bubbly off-white head. Alcohol, yeast, and spice in the nose. Nice flavor profile, strong flavor (for a wheat), with notes of alcohol, malt, fruit, and flowers. a little bitterness at the end. Not as heavy as a barleywine perhaps, but seems similar to a belgian strong. Maybe it’s just me. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Attractively hazy orange with a soapy cap of off-white head that settles with a bit of lacing. Really distinct fruit leather aroma, with rhubarb and a tightly wound spiciness--musky perfume, cloves. Apricot and clove flavors. Lots of spice here too, but all bourn in a soft, full body. A bit of alcohol warming that seems harsh at first, but a little warming really seems to soften that impression. I don’t know how to classify this beer, but I think it is more enjoyable if you ignore stylistic guidelines and just taste. It’s delightfully hard to pigeonhole. A fun experiment from Bells and a really interesting and lively beer.
