Commercial Description:
This beer is the first in Bell’s Wheat Project. Project comprises five new ales, four in series and one specialty strong product. The first four, Wheat 2, Wheat 4, Wheat 6 and Wheat eight are all made using 55% Wheat (either wholly or mostly malted) and 45% Barley malt. The barley malt makeup is exactly the same in each of the four and consists of three different malts. The total amount of grain in each of the four is also exactly the same, so each of them should have a virtually identical original gravity. The type and amount of hops in each of the four is exactly the same. And the processing through the brewhouse and fermentation is also exactly the same. The changing factors between the ales are the composition of the 55% of wheat used and the type and number of yeast strains used. In Wheat 2 the 55% of wheat is made up of two different kinds of wheat malt, and this ale is made with two different yeasts. Wheat Two Wheats: White, Dark Yeast: Bell’s house ale strain, WLP410 Belgian Wit II

This wheat beer pours a orange gold color from a 12 oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is orange, citrus, grainy and sweet, lots of fruit esters. A medium to full bodied wheat beer. Malts are fruity and estery. Bright yeasts and grainy wheats make for an interesting beer. A touch citrusy. Smooth taste. Very reminiscent of a Wit beer. Interesting. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Thanks to John C for sharing.

Bottle from Kevin
Pours a lush gold with a straw-like aroma. Hints of dough, bread, and lemon are also contained within the smell. Slight clove and banana flavor, but mostly a raw yeast. Good, but not great.

You definitely get the witbier yeast in this despite it being categorized as an American wheat beer here. Carefully poured, my first glass was nearly clear but the second quite a bit hazy orange. Nose is clovey and spicy w/ some banana and fruity notes. Flavor is rather on the spicy side w/ gentle but spunky carbonation and just a tiny bit of bitterness in the finish. There’s a certain cleanness to this despite the yeast used that’s rather pleasant.

Pours a light, clear amber with a small white head, diminishing, some lacing. The aroma is bananas, cloves and lemons. The flavor is cloves, bananas and grapes. The mouthfeel is soft and round.

Bottle, Batch 7083. Poured a hazy medium golden with a light layer of white head... nice lacing followed it down. Really enjoyed the aroma of lemon and bananas, cloves and honey. Very smooth and clean on the palate. Flavors of wheat and lemongrass upfront, clove, banana, and bubblegum in the middle, and some spices with more banana at the finish. Very refreshing, and excellent example of the style!

Pours a golden cloudy hue. Nose is clove, banana, honey, citrus, and a subtle note of white grape. Taste is mostly clove, citrus, grass and honey. Finish is better compared to most weiss beers. Very fruity. An ok wheat but nothing to write home about. Germans have weiss beers down pat. No need for Americans to meddle in this style.

Thanks to JohnC for sharing this at the Pizza Port 9th Strong ale festival. Orange-straw colored, aroma is enticing spicy lemon fruity. Llight toasty wheat/sweet malt backbone, yeasty spice/fruit esters arranged nicely as counterpoint. Certainly a better example than most American Wheats that I have tried.
