ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 28, 2005 Bottle consumed on 11/25/05. Light, hazy, but not terribly cloudy appearance. Tangerine-golden appearance is much darker than a modern wit, but about on par with say, Abbaye des Rocs Blanche des honnelles, which is supposedly a traditional wit. Head is small and white, with moderate retention and spotty lacing. Aroma has a dry, lightly creamy wheat note, fresh and easygoing. The Belgian yeast contributes light bubble gum notes, not very sweet in nature, with some light orange-peel like citrus. Flavor begins with a dry, lightly chewy wheat presence, mix of Belgian and Bells yeastiness (dry, sourdough and lightly sweet, lightly fruity notes combined). Body is medium, perhaps even medium-light, but nowhere is it watery or thin. Just not tons of sweetness from the barley malt. Natural carbonation is lightly expansive on the end, but not too much so. Texture is lightly chewy, very-wheat influenced. Touches of spices remain on the palate, as well as light bubble gum and a touch of lemon or orange peel. Very sessionable ale, and it’s interesting to now have a Belgian/American wheat from Bells, alongside their German/American wheat (oberon). brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Nov 28, 2005 Pours a golden orange with a light white head (a bit of lace). Nice, medium bodied aroma (if aroma has body). Light Belgian yeast presence with spices like cardamom. There is also noticeable citrus and a sourdough bread hint. Light and enjoyable body with a healthy amount of carbonation that works quite well. Interesting flavors. Very light and drinkable with Belgian yeast presence give some spiciness. Also, nice malt and wheat bill holding up some light citrus hops. Very nice overall. Belgian like, but not too much. I could get into this one. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA Nov 28, 2005 Very cloudy in appearance, darker than their Oberon, with a thin, white head. Aroma is spicy with banana and clove with a massive attack of wheat malt and warm fermentation esters. Flavor is very spicy, very very spicy like Stoudts Weizen or Sam Adams Dunkelweizen with a viscous body and a malt character that is bready, wheat laden and lightly toasty with a strong finish that includes a hint of menthol and fruitiness with a smack of sweetness then returns to a very drying, slightly astringent character. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 27, 2005 Thanks to Sprinkle for this one.Pours a golden orange but what a nice refreshing nose, gee I am used to but IPA’s and Impys so this is nice. Kinda like corn and yeast, lots of barn smells. Tastes like dough and some grain. Not bad and a good brew to have around as a few of them will not kick your ass. CharlesDarwin (1824), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Nov 27, 2005 Bright lemony and tart aroma, with a surprisingly present dash of hexane for an American Wheat, but supple and lucious nonetheless. Light notes of cane sugar and spicy yeast in the background. Cloudy orange yellow pour, with a soapy clean white head. Sweet, clean sugary profile, with savory bread, olive oil, light shallot and rounded yeast profile, with plenty of delicious wheaty esters and fusels. Warming and yet rounded. Palate is a little oily and sweet, with wisps of perfume on the leaving smack. Damn, Bells makes Wheat! I would drink this on a regular basis, oh wait...lately I have been. TChrome (1298), Bedford, Texas, USA Nov 27, 2005 Beer pours style consistent cloudy amber with a big off white head that is retained. Aroma smells very nice for an American wheat, in fact if I didn’t know better, I would thing I was smelling a good German hefe. Notes include wheat, cloves, banana, some other spices. Flavor is consistent with the aroma, with a bit of a raw wheat flavor, along with a touch of banana and some spices. Palate is rounded and creamy. This is easily the best American wheat I have ever had. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2005 Hazy orangey color with mild shord lived head.Tiny floaties. Aroma of apricots, bananas and subtle citrus. Great mouthfeel, tasty brew. Tastes like it smells Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Nov 26, 2005 cloudy orangish color, small white head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma was wheaty with a little fruitiness and a bit of a band-aid smell as well.Maybe a bit of bannana coming through as it warms but hard to say on that one.Thankfully the band-aid didn’t show in the taste, nice wheaty flavor with a bit of bannana coming through as well as a decent hop presence but not so overly done that it gets in the way.Nice light bite on the tongue with a slight mildly fruity after taste. If you get past the band-aid you got it made,it turns into a fairly good brew, granted not in the caliber of the 6 or 8 but still quite quaffable.
