Commercial Description:
This beer is the first in Bell’s Wheat Project. Project comprises five new ales, four in series and one specialty strong product. The first four, Wheat 2, Wheat 4, Wheat 6 and Wheat eight are all made using 55% Wheat (either wholly or mostly malted) and 45% Barley malt. The barley malt makeup is exactly the same in each of the four and consists of three different malts. The total amount of grain in each of the four is also exactly the same, so each of them should have a virtually identical original gravity. The type and amount of hops in each of the four is exactly the same. And the processing through the brewhouse and fermentation is also exactly the same. The changing factors between the ales are the composition of the 55% of wheat used and the type and number of yeast strains used. In Wheat 2 the 55% of wheat is made up of two different kinds of wheat malt, and this ale is made with two different yeasts. Wheat Two Wheats: White, Dark Yeast: Bell’s house ale strain, WLP410 Belgian Wit II

White, pillowy head with excellent retention; golden-orange appearance with some particulates. Pleasant medium nose, showing German characteristics - bananas and clove appear quite a bit. Mouthfeel is more American (in one of the endearing senses of the word): nicely-hopped, good carbonation, green apple, some honey, finishing dry and spicy. It’s as if someone swiped my German hefeweizen halfway... I’m mildly confused, but very interesting and tasty.

355ml bottle obtained in a trade with <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=21222 target=blank>OhioDad, thanks Scott. Batch 7083. Murky orange in colour, large long lasting cream coloured head, lots of lace, some dark particles. The aroma has very light caramel malt sweetness, light citrus, some must/yeast. The flavour is of yeast first, some floral hops, some lemon, light orange. Creamy mouthfeel, light body, mild carbonation. Finishes with a light bitterness, some citrus. Pretty good, the citrus, floral hops and malt all balance well together.

bottle. batch 7083. Aroma: Corinader spiciness, banana, touch of bubblegum, and a slight berry-like aroma. Wheat comes through a little stronger as it warms. Appearance: Hazy and dark yellow in color, there are alot of floaties in this one. Head was just slightly off-white and a good three fingers in height. Flavor: Light citrus, peppery, slight banana. Wheat flavor is subtle and quite nice. Hoppiness is more than I expected, and overwhelms the other flavors a bit. Palate: Light bodied. Good carbonation. Some of the floaties were big enough to be felt on the tongue. A nice dry finish. Overall: IMHO, the hops overwhelm the other flavors in this beer. A nice beer, and certainly refreshing, but I look forward to the others in the series

Pours hazy and dark golden. Aroma is sweet and yeasty with banana and buttery flavors. Taste is grainy wheat and yeasty with citrus and bananas. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Keep trying, you’re getting close.

Bottle from trade with OhioDad! Batch 7083. Poured a darker golden color with a nice white head. A very sweet aroma with spices, fruit, and wheat. The flavor found a great mix of spices, banana, wheat, and lemon. Medium body that had lively carbonation. Thanks Scott!

Thanks to OhioDad. Cloudy yellow orange beer with a thick fluffy head. Very wheaty aroma with a bit of orange citrus and light clovey spice. Also some appley notes. Soft creamy texture, full-bodied. Wheaty flavour, some earthy/noble hop flavour and some light apple/pear fruitiness. Long spicy finish especially as it starts to warm. Quite hoppy as well. Nice beer with a very bready flavour.

An unclear orange beer with a light orange head. The aroma is quite light, what is there is sweet with notes of both wheat and caramel. The flavor is sweet wheat, but also with light notes of grapefruit.

Bottle: A clear golden orange pour with a minimal soapy white head. Aroma is of sweet wheat textures, nicely malted, orange, clove, and some light fruit textures. Taste is very similar to a german hefewiezen, with nice wheat notes, decent maltiness, and fruity notes throughout. Palate is sweet with a slight tingle. Overall, I liked this brew. I’m looking forward to sampling the other Wheat ale line.
