Commercial Description:
This beer is the first in Bell’s Wheat Project. Project comprises five new ales, four in series and one specialty strong product. The first four, Wheat 2, Wheat 4, Wheat 6 and Wheat eight are all made using 55% Wheat (either wholly or mostly malted) and 45% Barley malt. The barley malt makeup is exactly the same in each of the four and consists of three different malts. The total amount of grain in each of the four is also exactly the same, so each of them should have a virtually identical original gravity. The type and amount of hops in each of the four is exactly the same. And the processing through the brewhouse and fermentation is also exactly the same. The changing factors between the ales are the composition of the 55% of wheat used and the type and number of yeast strains used. In Wheat 2 the 55% of wheat is made up of two different kinds of wheat malt, and this ale is made with two different yeasts. Wheat Two Wheats: White, Dark Yeast: Bell’s house ale strain, WLP410 Belgian Wit II

12oz bottle acquired in trade with Jcapriotti (thanks!). Poured a deep and hazy golden color with a larger sized off white head. Upon initial pour, it immediately reminded me of a bowl of Wheaties. Aromas of wheat and yeast with some banana and citrus in the background. Tastes of wheat, bananas, lemons and light cloves. I’d like to get my hands on the other wheat beers.

Murky orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma is wheat, banana, cloves, and yeast. Kind of tastes like gerber banana baby food. Sweet with that banana yeast taste. Body is a little watery in the finish. Finish also a nice banana aftertaste and some spices.

Very cloudy in appearance, darker than their Oberon, with a thin, white head. Aroma is spicy with banana and clove with a massive attack of wheat malt and warm fermentation esters. Flavor is very spicy, very very spicy like Stoudts Weizen or Sam Adams Dunkelweizen with a viscous body and a malt character that is bready, wheat laden and lightly toasty with a strong finish that includes a hint of menthol and fruitiness with a smack of sweetness then returns to a very drying, slightly astringent character.

Pours a golden orange with a light white head (a bit of lace). Nice, medium bodied aroma (if aroma has body). Light Belgian yeast presence with spices like cardamom. There is also noticeable citrus and a sourdough bread hint. Light and enjoyable body with a healthy amount of carbonation that works quite well. Interesting flavors. Very light and drinkable with Belgian yeast presence give some spiciness. Also, nice malt and wheat bill holding up some light citrus hops. Very nice overall. Belgian like, but not too much. I could get into this one.

Pours light red-tinged copper with a small head of coarse white bubble. Honey, toasted rye bread, cola, dried orange peal. Flavor is gently toasty malt, a bit of clean orange, and an underlying spicy hum. Nice tingly mouthfeel, and a clean refreshing finish. Very tasty.

Transparent and pale glowing gold in color with a skittish ice sheet for the head. Inviting aroma laden with cloves, bananas and vanilla set against a faintly sugared lemon drops background, but it’s the banana-cloves format that’s procuring the most appreciation. Sweet lemon crème, banana cream pie and mollified spicing (cloves and pepper being the most predominant.) Feisty and tingly - yet checked - effervescence. Pils husk comes through on the second half of each quaff and a sweet corn belt pulls it through. Somewhere in between a German Hefe and Three Floyds Gumball head. Bottom line: well done.
