verymerrymonk (227), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 16, 2004 Cloudy golden color as it settled in the glass below a small but nice head. Aroma of spice with a bit of citrus. There just wasn’t much there taste-wise besides a bit of orange and clove. The pour and swirl were so promising, I must admit I was a bit disappointed.
smooch (34), Sylvania, Ohio, USA Jan 4, 2009 A solid witbier. A little hazy...you certainly can see the relation to Hefe even if you can’t taste it. Pretty tasty although no world beater. coyotehunter (99), , Michigan, USA Jan 3, 2009 I still say Bells is overfiltering lately. this beer never used to be so clear. has good aromas of spice and bread, as well as hints of spice. Has a somewhat crisp mouthfeel and a dry finish. Not bad. Pawola22 (172), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jan 3, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a bright and clear, golden straw colored body. Very small, white, bubbly head that dissipates immediately and leaves no lace. Little bit of rising carbonation. Aroma is really interesting. It definitely is a mix of styles. Has the distinct wheat smell of a hefe as well as the sugary Belgian ale yeastiness. Banana, lemon, and fruity esters as well as bread, coriander, and other spices. So weird...yeasty and wheaty, but not bad at all. Flavor is very similar. One sip its banana and wheat like a hefe, then the next is yeasty and spicy like a Belgian ale. Palate is light to medium and highly carbonated. Cloying and dryer finish. Overall, this is an interesting beer. It starts wheaty and malty, then moves to a spicy and yeasty middle, before ending yeasty and lingering with a sweet banana bread taste. I can see why people wouldnt like this, but I would probably buy this again. msjacilynn (18), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 31, 2008 bottle. pours a hazy white-yellow with little white head. smells of spices and yeast. taste is a variety of spices with a hint of cider/orange/some fruit I couldn’t quite put my finger (or tounge) on. one of my favorite wheat beers of the winter but can understand that it’s not for everyone. fidelis83 (227), Clinton, Iowa, USA Dec 31, 2008 Pours a super milky light gold, like a yeast milkshake. Pour has a small but well lasting white head. Aroma iswheat, banana, lemon zest, orange peeel, sourdough, and yeast. Taste is heavy on wheat, citrus, and yeast at first, banana comes in toward the middle, along with starfruit orange peel, and spice. Really dominant on the yeast notes, very spicy and estery. Body is medium with a very tactile feel to the finish from the yeast, carbonation is good...maybe a little on the low side.
