A Wheat Ale brewed with American Wheat and a proprietary blend of Hefe and classic Belgian-style yeasts. A refreshing winter alternative created from the subtle fusion of two classic flavors.

Wheat beers are summer beers. The big surprise is that this is a wheat beer on testosterone. Every classic aspect of a wheat is a bit exagerated in this beer. It is very cloudy with s short finely laced head. The beer is a dark straw color with a strong lemony aroma. The palate is adequately short of sweet with citrus overtones and a fairly strong hop follow through. Wheats are not my favorite, but this one holds its own.

I tend to associate the witbier style with the warmer months, but Iíve noticed a lot of breweries offering witbiers as winter seasonals (mostly as play on the white=snow metaphor). Bellís Winter White Ale isnít particularly wintery nor Christmasy, but it works as a traditional, to-spec witbier and I enjoy it as such.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It was bottled on 11/6/14 and cost $2.65 ($0.22 per ounce).

Appearance: Pale orange hue over a mostly cloudy body. Pours to a small, white, foamy head which mostly dissipates and leaves little lacing on the glass.

Smell: Strong aroma of orange and banana Ė almost like an Orange Julius.

Taste: As soon as it hits my lips Iím immediately brought back to summer, as this has the classic Belgian yeast esters of banana and citrus. I assume thereís orangepeel and coriander in the brew in addition to the wheat and pale malt used as the base malt. Orange seems to be the predominate flavor Ė itís sweet, almost candy-like in flavor, but not tart. The spicy character is light, but complementary and its noticeable from beginning to end. I even detect some distinct bitterness Ė slightly dry and a hint citrusy. Overall, itís a fine, enjoyable palette.

Drinkability: Bellís Winter White Ale is a beer Iíd rather drink this in summer than winter. The mouthfeel is thin, crisp, but not overly carbonated. Itís refreshing for sure and finishes clean. At only 5% ABV itís not surprising it doesnít have a lot of body, though itís quite tempting to session this (if you live in Florida).

Hazy yellow pour. White head. Heavy on the citrus and maybe some banana and spice in the finish as well. Nice for the style.

Poured a hazy yellow gold colour with a thin white head. Aroma is bright with wheat, yeast, and clove notes and hints of citrus. Flavor is of wheat and yeast spice with strong bits of clove/banana on the finish.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 My favorite winter beer. Aroma is orange peel, coriander, wheat, hint of lemon, and clove. Taste is wheat, spice, orange peel, toasted malt, and a touch of tartness at the end. Crisp, refreshing palate with a brief finish. Great winter session beer and a great wit beer.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a hazy light gold with a very little, rapidly dissipating head. Has a very yeasty aroma to it with slight amounts of citrus. Tastes a perfect balance of hops, yeast and wheat. Great beer.

Bottle: Aroma is citrus, banana, and cloves. Pours a very hazy (hard to see thru) pale yellowish-orange with a white head without a lot of retention. Flavor is very malty. Banana is very obvious in the flavor. A little spicey then sour and citrusy in the finish. Very smooth beer. Light banana aftertaste.

A very tasty ale, lots of yeast flavor and a very nice crisp finish. Great for drinks on a cold day.
