The result of a collaboration brew done late in the fall of 2012 with Evil Twin Brewing (Denmark & Brooklyn). This stout was soured in barrels by an army of wee beasties over a period of 6 months. The resulting beer pairs natural acidic and tart fruit flavors with roasted malts. Mighty tasty. Draft 8.7% ABV, bottles refermented and 9.2% ABV

500ml bottle #536/1563. Black in colour with a thin but lasting tan head, good retention, light lacing. The aroma is sour and acidic, dark fruits and malts, some sweetness. The flavour is a bit roasty, lots of plums, sour and funky, dark cherries, woody. Lightly sour mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with lots of fruit, funky. This is really good, mildly sour throughout but still has some of the characteristics of the stout. Excellent.

Bottle from the brewery. Bottled in May 2013, consumed in April 2015. Deep almost-black with a thin tan head and subdued carbonation. Aroma and flavour both have a perfect balance of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, licorice, and - to quote the Cocteau Twins - "Cherry-Coloured Funk". A great combination of flavours in a beer that held up really well to two years of aging.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2015 Off the charts. This beer was a gamble at the price point but oh the wonders it unleashed. When you think of crafting a beer it doesn't get any better than this. One flavour leads to the next until it ends in a sourness that hits a perfect crescendo. So well put together it's scary.

Bottle, 2013 vintage, #599. Dark brown, lively beige head, light lace. Dark malts, fruity lactic sourness that doesn’t overpower, corky undertones, creamy mouthfeel. Nice balance here, I like the overall rounded, gentle character.

[5607-20130728] Tap. Yeasty roasted grains aroma. Black body with a quick foamy tan head. Sour yeasty roast flavour has a zesty citrus aftertaste. Medium-full body. Tasty. (7/3/8/4/16) 3.8

Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some dry roasted notes that are also perceptible. Taste is a mix between some tart notes with some dry roasted malt notes with light funky and acidic undertones. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting mix but I am not personally a big fan of those soured stout.
