This imperial stout is aged with tart cherries in second use cognac barrels (after Bring Out Your Dead comes out) for 3 months. Cognac contribution is very minimal (intentionally). The resulting elixir showcases a delicious blend of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee and tart cherry. Really F*&#$*!-ing good. 2015 version aged for 1 year.

Big rich nose with cherries. Thick black appearance with nice brown small bubbles head. Heavy rich flavour of cognac and fruit with malt sweetness. Finish turns chocolate and dryness slowly takes over. Exceptional rich offering.

500ml bottle from trade with Jeffrey. Aroma: strong chocolate blended with cherries with a subtle smokey touch. App: pitch black with medium brown head, little retention but leaving good lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, creamy, lots of cherries in mouth, maybe too much, medium high sweetness, light to moderate acidity finish. Overall: hum. Not bad but wasn’t expecting this. I guess I should have read the description or at least some reviews before trying it. Didn’t know about the cherry and that acidity. Thought I was about to drink an imperial stout inline with the style. Body feels too weak probably due to the aging. It bothers me a bit. Don’t think I can drink this whole bottle all by myself. Way too sweet. Just ok.

Bottled. Small sample @ De Molen. Thanks John and Menno. The aroma has cherries, chocolate, light tart tones, bit booze, bit roast. Black coloured beer with a medium sized beige head. The taste is light bitter, has chocolate sweetness, bit tart cherries. Medium-full bodied beer. Very pleasant.

Sampled at RateBeer Best festival 2016. Pours oily black with a frothy, beige head. The nose holds hard roasted malts, cocoa. Big sweet flavour with bittersweet chocolate, coconut, ash. Full bodied and chewy, with fine carbonation. Oily and warming on the finish, with more rich chocolate, coconut accents. Good beer.

Sample from shared bottle @ De Molen, thanks Menno & John. Black color. Beige head. Aroma’s: cherries, chocolate, sweetish. Flavor is moderate sweet with fruity (cherry) tartness. Medium bodied. Long finish, light bitter. Nicer than I’d expected.

Bottle. Vintage 2016. Viscous black with loads of dense mocha head and nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate, molases, and a faint hint of cherries. Taste is roasted malts, light cherries, coffee, and oak. Thick mouthfeel. Really smooth, I get lots of oak from this. Very little heat also. Well done.
