3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This IPA poured a cloudy amber colour with a big, frothy, off white head. Scents include citrus hops, with a little spruce and grass and a little coriander. First swig was quite hoppy with flavours of citrus hops, pineapple, orange and apple. Additional flavours of cherry Ha;;s and cherries in general also noticeable. Finish is medium bitter with citrus hop flavours lingering.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear pale gold with one finger of tight white head, good retention, and moderate lacing. Nose is pine and floral hops, pineapple, pale biscuity malt. Taste follows suit, mildly sweet malt with pine resin, grapefruit, and tropical fruit. Medium body and sticky, with moderate sustain carbonation and a long, intensely bitter finish.
Surprisingly light in colour and body for a DIPA, with the moderately high ABV very well integrated - could easily pass for a hop bomb-ish single IPA. The hop presence definitely handily beats out the malt backbone (which is, regardless, sufficient to the task) but the bitterness is a little over-emphasized - more sustain on the floral notes would have been nice. All in all, a very nice DIPA, but one that could stand a little polishing.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney and floral hops, with dry biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with strong piney and floral hops, crisp crackery malt, and some light grassiness from what tastes like pils malt. A little mineraly on the finish which detracts a bit. Very dry, hoppy and crisp, with a good balance, but again with the mineral quality. Good stuff, but not quite up to usual Bellwoods standard.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (500 ml). 8% abv. From Sammy, thanks! Clear bright golden with a medium white head and some lacing. Aroma is of resinous hops, citrus/tropical fruits, malt and light alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet with resinous hops, tropical fruits, a good malt backbone and moderate bitterness. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Dry finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Quite drinkable and enjoyable. Tasty. Not too bitter. Good!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Juteux, résineux, soyeux avec des agrumes sucrées enrobées de sirop de mangue. Juste à cheval entre la buvabilité extrême et la dégustation langoureuse.

Really nice aroma of tropical fruits with a hint of barnyard. Quite sweet tasting with some bitterness and blueberry. Nice beer. Medium bodied.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the brewery. Pale clear amber with a one finger white head that fades slowly and leaves a bit of lace. Nose has lots of tropical fruit, pine and resin. Lightly sweet fruity start quickly surpassed by grapefruit and pine bitterness in the middle and a definite catty character in the finish. Mouth is medium full and sticky with average carbonation. I will have to compare side by side with Witchshark to figure out which I prefer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
500mL bottle purchased from brewery 17 July. Pours a beautiful clear golden colour, much lighter than I was expecting given its Imperial designation. Big nose of pineapple, pine, and orange with sublte floral notes. A very drinkable medium bodied IPA that is remarkably well-balanced for the style, with pine resin and fresh tropical citrus flavours in near-perfect harmony. An incredible result from an always reliable brewery!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rating #1100. 500 mL bottle from the brewery, served in a stem glass. Pours clear golden with a small white head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big mango and grapefruit notes, along with pale malts, pineapple, light resin and a subtle cattiness. The flavour is moderately bitter up front with a delicate citric, slightly tropical hoppy character on a mild bready malt background. Bitterness picks up through the middle with perhaps citrus peel. It closes out with a long, intensely bitter finish but leaves much of the fruit behind. On the palate it is light-medium in body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nice delicate imperial IPA with an elegant blend of Simcoe and Centennial. Good subtlety but the finish is too one-dimensionally bitter--I would have liked to see some of the fruity notes carry through. 2014-07-18
