2014/01/14 - Pours an opaque, dark brown cola colour with a two-finger, fizzy, khaki coloured head that quickly reduces to a lasting surface film. Aroma is toasted/smokey malts, chocolate and sour brett funk (lemon and cranberries?). Taste is lemon, smokey malts, mild chocolate notes and a sweet and sour acidic aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium, with lively carbonation and a tart, drying finish. Interesting mix that plays well together. Well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the brewery bottle shop. Lovely, interesting and complex aroma of sourness and chocolate and coffee. Mild sourness up front with underlying chocolate and coffee porter flavours. Wonderfully complex beer.

Many thanks to Hogie from the excellent Upstreet brewery for bringing this back to me on his travels. What a many wondrous aromas and flavours this predator has lurking behind glass walls. To glance and dismiss it as another Porter would be easy yet absurd; the standard appearance hides a depth of character that requires contemplation and reckoning. Hints of bright lemon and tart cherries usher forth from a pleasant backdrop of rich lava-cake chocolate and vanilla. With a tip of the snifter I am treated to so much more. Funky but not fiendish swirls of Brett induced wet hay and horse-blanket jazz marry vinous and fruity staccato spikes and are all rounded out by a smooth mocha silk. A viscous, almost slick character is side-swiped by an unexpected but pleasingly prickly carbonation that allows the flavours to rest on the tongue and really be driven home. Freaky and uniquey.

Bottle. Pours black with dark head. Smells funky, a bit of balsamic, and coffee. Flavour was roasted and coffee like with a distinct balsamic character, some vinegar on the palate, despite the strong roasted flavour the body was medium to light, although the flavours of funk provided all the balance this beer needed. Good one!

Draught@Moeder Lambic, Brussels. Black colour, small brown head. aroma is liquorice, alcohol, mild toffee and some roasted and mild sour wooden notes. Flavour is fruity, some liquorice, mild sourness, alcohol and some berries. A bit out of balance in the flavour.

Black with a medium big head. The aroma has strong notes of barrel aging. it reminds of dry red wine. It has also lots of toffee, chocolate and nuts. The taste is less rich then the aroma. It has surprisingly light body and sour coffee aftertaste. Still nice to drink but a bit disappointing since the aroma is very promising.

Draught @ Moeder Lambic, Brussels. Aroma has sourish tones, balsamico, red wine and mild tobacco & licorice. Flavour has licorice, red wine, woody tones, balsamico and mild spices. Too oud bruin for me.

Bottle shared. Black pour with thin tan foam. Aroma is winey, nice brett, roasty notes, red wine. Taste is tart, nice earthy notes, good balance of roastiness and tart flavors. Palate is light, good carbonation, dry finish. Palate really boosts the drinkability of this beer, I’m not a huge fan of the style but this works well.
