3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 solidfunk (1919) - Ontario, - JUL 7, 2012Smells great. Some floral hops and bitterness. Citrus, even some anise. Pours kind of like a lager, like lot of good tripels though. A little cloudy. Taste has quite a lot of alcohol, bitterness and a lot of monkish pleasantry. Bottle from first sale at the brewery.

650 mL bottle from the brewery. Hazy yellow-orange with a small white head. The surprisingly mild nose has sweet tangerine, cookie dough, wheat, and a touch of spice. Taste is not a whole lot different, although you can add some booze and a touch of C-hops. Bitterness in the finish may be from alcohol as much as from hops. Really well done.

(Sample of a friend’s on draught at the brewpub, Sept 28, 2012) Poured a slightly hazed orange with a fairly frothy, lacy white head. Aroma of citrus (orange, some pith) and biscuit malt, slight yeast funk and some sugary sweetness and leafy hops. Flavour fruity orange, slightly leafy hop character, spices and pepper, very faint yeast. Light sweetness from the malt, lightly bitter and slightly boozy finish. Medium mouthfeel, lively and effervescent carbonation, alcohol not hidden but not overwhelming. Well-balanced, quite drinkable take on a tripel with good use of Amarillo hops.

2012-08-12. Very lightly hazy orange body with a nice creamy off-white head. 4+ Very interesting first sip is fruity with notes of citrusy hops, light alcohol in the finish. Very light bitterness, the alcohol is restrained on the tongue but its grip upon my throat grows slowly but steadily, which suggests it is likely stronger than it initially appears. 7+ Aroma is modest for such a big beer, mild melange of sweet malt, soft subtle sweet tangerine and modest alcohol. 7+ Very smooth medium bodied palate, softly carbonated. 3+ dangerously drinkable at first, but my body occasionally balks at the alcohol intake, recognizing that it is due more respect that my quaffing is giving it. More subtle and nuanced than expected, the hops work rather nicely with the malt. Very good. 16+ On tap at Bellwoods, Toronto

bomber shared by garthicus with me and blankboy. Hazy orange, solid and lasting fluffy white head. Smells like a slightly fruity trippel with plenty of dry funk. Taste follows, less funk, more fruit, less alcohol - really nice! Average body, airy mouthfeel, slightly floral and alcoholic finish. Very nice stuff.

Amber-gold pour. The nose is spicy and a little bit fruity. Nice and dry with a soft peppery spiciness. Earthy and fruity with some soft minty spiciness. A lovely light honeyed malt character. Fresh and lovely.
