An American brown ale with a distinctive hoppy bitterness and notes of roasted malt, chocolate, pine, nuts, citrus rind and dark fruit. Pilot batch was called American Brown Ale.

bottle. Dark brown colour, fizzy head. Hoppy citrus and pine. Not much malt at all. Its decent, but not balanced or really indicative of the style.

Bottle from brewery. Really like this! Pours murky brown with a quickly fading tan head and no lacing. Nose is sweet and grassy. Notes of roasted nuts, plums, Cheerios, fresh cut grass and maybe some pine. Taste is light/med sweet and medium bitter. Medium body somewhat sticky with an abrupt dry finish and a long lasting bitterness.

On tap at the brewpub. Brown, tan head. Aroma is spicey/herbal Columbus, pine, petrol. Taste is spice, petrol, not much malt, even for a hoppy American brown. Good, though.

This brown ale poured a slightly cloudy, deep amber colour with a minimal , tan coloured head. Scents include ripe fruit, grassy hops, hay and leaves. First swig was quite hoppy off the start but tapers quickly. Flavours of spruce hops and ripe fruit, along with roasted malts. Finish was hoppy and had a medium bitterness lingering.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2013 You can call this a brown ale if you want but it ain’t. It pours more like a porter: deep black with a thin milky off white cap. Tastes more like an American pale ale or mid-America ipa: pine, citrus & a brisk after taste. For some, it may not add up. For others -- hop heads, beer geeks & me -- it’s good stuff. Was expecting a boring brown ales that’d been hip in the ’90s. Instead I get a stealth hop bomb that is tasty, adventurous & quaffable.

Draft - Big pine nose and some toasted malts. Deep clear brown with a light brown head. Piney hop bomb with a tiny bit of roast but not much. Way off balance, just a brown IPA. Style is way off bit still enjoyable.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours clear brown with a fine light tan head. Aroma of citrus, chocolate malt, some fruity esters. Taste is fairly sweet up front from chocolate or caramel malt, with a medium body, and a sticky, citrusy hop finish.

Bottle. Brownish pour. Nutty roastiness, great bitterness. Big flavor, active mouthfeel. Very impressive. Canadian Indian brown ale???

500ml bottle. Pours a clear, dark amber/brown with a two finger, bubbly tan head that leaves mild lacing. Aroma is very noticeable with big citrus fruit hop notes. Hints of bread, pine, and a touch of caramel. Taste is a medium bitter with a mild, slightly roasted, bitter aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Slightly resiny but still pretty crisp. Goes down way to easy for 6.2%. This is dangerous. Overall this is great stuff. Smells great and tastes just as good. Dangerously drinkable but very enjoyable. Will buy again for sure.
