COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Russian Imperial Stout is a very strong variant of the stout originally developed by English brewers in the 18th century to export to the court of Catherine the Great in Russia. This extremely dark and complex beer has intense aromas and flavours of malt, burnt chocolate, dark fruit, fresh earth and vanilla. A portion will be aged and released next year.

Yeast: American Ale
Hop: Warrior
Malt: Pilsner, Wheat, Hops, Crystal, Smoked, Chocolate, Black, R Barley, Molasses

Bottle from the brewery. Opaque dark brown with a two finger lingering dark khaki head. Nose is chocolate, molasses, coffee, plum, candied fruit and light vanilla. Light sweet malt supports a medium bitter chocolate and coffee. Mouth is full and creamy with soft carbonation and a lingering finish where the alcohol just manages to make itself known. Excellent. 9-/5-/8/4+/16+

500ml bottle from the brewery bought by brother, thanks Guillaume. Aroma: good mix of chocolate, roasted malt and vanilla. Also some dark red fruits as it warms up. App: really dark brown, medium brown frothy head and beautiful lacing covering almost all the glass. Taste and palate: full body, creamy, smooth, medium sweetness, even more chocolate in mouth, moderate bitter finish. Overall: pretty good. Could be a bit less bitter but overall this is a success to me. I needed something like this after my bad day yesterday. Rating might be biased because of this but I don’t care, this is good and what I needed today.

Merci à Guillaume pour le partage! Vintage 2014.

Bottle. Black pour, big brown head. Thick, full bodied, burnt flavours, slightly smoky, bitter, strong but very smooth. No alcohol, slight mineral flavour. Killer stout.

2013 version drank early 2016. Pours out like engine oil. Pitch black dark, tons of dark fruit, roasted malt, molasses and cacao in the nose. Tons of dark fruit, molasses, roasted malts, medium dry body, alcohol is well hidden. Low carbonation. Nice lingering malt and cacao finish. Excellent example of an imperial stout. Another winner from Bellwoods.

Bottle. Jet black color, dark brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Nice aroma of licorice and burnt espresso. Taste Has dark bittersweet chocolate, dark coffee, burnt brownies. One of the easiest drinking 10% stouts I’ve had.

750ml bottle from the brewery in Toronto, Ontario at one of the first bottle sale days. Deep black in colour with a thin but long lasting tan head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, lots of roasted malts, light coffee. The flavour is heavy on the chocolate, lots of roasted malts, vanilla, dark fruits. Warming bitter mouthfeel, large body, moderate carbonation. Finishes very long, roasty and warming. A very big Imperial Stout. This is so good. Incredible balance, high drinkability. Very well done.

Bottle: Thanks Pushkinwow: Chouffe glass: Black beer with a brown head. Great aroma of smoke, roast, tobacco, coffee, malt roast, hint of caramel, oat and light earthy. Flavour of roast, sweet tar, bitter, smoke, herbs, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, some spice roast, toffee and a liquorice/bay leaf tint. Aftertaste is bitter, dark chocolate, coffee, roast, sweet tar, caramel... Low carbo, thick oily mouthfeel, close to full body. Supreme mouthfeel! Super aroma! Tasty beer! Good!

Pours oily black with dark brown head. Aroma of smoke, earth and chocolate. Taste much the same. Decent balance between sweet and acrid and bitter.

Pours a thick oily black with reddish brown head, dense but only a half of my sausage-like fingers. Nose is malt rich, and sweet, and the booze is lingering in there too. Taste is maltly but a little burnt as well as roasted, but nicely avoids that ashy flavour that so many I.Stouts seem to fall pray too. Sweet syrup lacking much fruit complexity, poorly balanced with a little bitter in the after. You’ll also notice a bit of the booze too. Overall good, not spectac but that’s life. Solid label though.
