3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the brewery. Pours a cloudy bright sunshine-yellow with a large and pillowy white head. Pungent aroma of citrus peel, pineapple, musky hops and lemon oil. Flavour of lychee, lemon peel, pine, unsweetened grapefruit, and a hint of white pepper. Body is crisp with a clean and dry/bitter finish. As others have noted, there ain’t much hefe-ish about this beer, but it’s so bright and tasty that I’m happy to overlook that and give it a great rating anyway.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This Hefe poured a light yellow color, very cloudy. Scents include pineapple (citrus), dough and bread. First sip was a little thin feeling but not in a bad way. Flavors of citrus and grass most predominant. Finish is citrus juicy!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013/04/26 - Pours a hazy bright yellow with a soapy white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is citrus (lemon and grapefruit), floral hops, pine and slight yeast. Taste is lots of citrus up front with an astringent, hoppy an pine aftertaste. Body is medium and effervescent with lots of carbonation and a drying finish. Great summer beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Hazy gold pour, good lacing. Juicy hoppy aroma. Interesting balance of dank hops, lemon, yeast, banana, wheat, and pepper with the hops winning out. Works for me! Lighter body, lively carbonation. I could drink this all summer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2013 Draft - Hay, lemon, honey and a little farmhouse funk. Hazy yellow with a thin white head. Crazy hops and the sweetness of the yeast remind me of a Deschutes experimental I once had. Love it completely.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at Bar Hop. Very hazy/cloudy light yellow. Very small drool of white head. Pungently grassy aroma, not a lot of sweetness. Taste follows - holy crap that’s bitter, only vaguely hefe-like, more like an ultra dry wit noble hopped to the max. Light body, very astringent, moderately carbonated, longish grassy coating finish. Lively brew.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2013 "Classic German Hefe" it is silly to say, Bellwoods. The Hoppy Hefe is brewed with (American not German??) Weissbier yeast and because of this the tribute is in name only - expect here no fruity or banana flavors and and no spicy clove or notes of lemon, bubblegum or creamy vanilla you might find in a typical Weissbier, or in something like Hopfen-Weisse. With its dry, complex hop bouquet Hoppy Hefeweizen is more of a grassy, pointedly bitter wheat ale with a light body. The beer shows off the distinct herbal quality of its fresh tasty hops and this in particular Bellwoods does very well. I sorta liked it!
