On tap at Gig’s - Hazed pale gold with a massive meringue cap. Aroma is sweet malts with citrus and some fruitiness. Medium-Light body has both westcoast and british Pale characteristics. Flavour has a big dose of pale crystal malts balanced off with some leafy citrus and resinous hops - clean drying finish with a bit of lingering bittering. Great drinking pale, extra points for its freshness.

Bomber from the brewery. Amber with a nice creamy off white head. A pleasent resin hop character, some malt, somewhat hot, quite bitter, grapefruit, bit of lemon zest. Full body, mild+ carbonation, bitter with a hint of sweetness, slightly boozy, a bit unbalanced, still quite tasty though.

In short: A boozy and overly bitter-aggressive caramelized and resinous fruity IPA. Intensity over drinkability. Just decent.
How: A few bottles, bomber and chubby 341ml, from Pat and robinvboyer, consumed fresh.
The look: Almost clear dark golden body topped by a persistent small beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is very resinous fruity hops, light notes of rubbing alcohol. Taste has a heavy caramelized body, some refreshing citrusy flavors, a whole lot of hop resin, a strong alcohol bite. Bitterness level in the medium-high range. Very sticky resinous sensation. Aggressive soda-pop style carbonation. A decent beer but the more I drank it the less I liked it. Everything about this beer is too much for its own good. The type of intense IPA that scores very well in a tasting but drinking a full bottle (like I did) doesn’t score so well with all that sticky hops resin and booze piling up in the back of the mouth. In the past few years Ontario have started producing kick-ass beer, but this top-rated Ontario beer ain’t one of them. Probably the least interesting Bellwoods I had so far (more ratings to come). Everybody seem to love this beer and I will disagree because I don’t care about other people opinions, do guys find it ok that I think like this?

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2013 2013/04/19 - Pours a clear, dark gold color with a thin white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, hops and sweet citrus. Taste is sweet citrus up front with a sharp, piney, bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium, with good carbonation and a crisp, drying finish. Hides ABV very well. Really smooth Imp IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(A trade from Sammy) The aroma was surprisingly more of a fruity sweetness than hoppy grapefruit or pine. Delightful. A hazy amber pour with no head or lacing. The taste is bitter. Hops prevale. Howeve, there is a an unexpected note of malty sweetness in the middle followed by a hoppy finish. Some hints of grain were also noted.A very nice balance. Medium body and carbonation. Overall, another satisfying Canadian IPA. Would drink again.

500 ml bottle from brewery. Pours a lightly hazed orange/copper colour wtih large, creamy, sticky cream-coloured head . Lively tropical fruit and resiny pine hoppiness in the aroma with some caramel. Flavour is quite rich with big juicy grapefruit, lots of resiny hops and some sweet caramel. Some alcohol warmth toward the end and a solid bitterness in the finish. Very nice.

On tap at Milos’. Huge IIPA that manages to feel both bold and refreshing. Lots of citrus fruits: oranges, grapefruit, lemon. Lots of hop profile, bitter finish. Excellent beer!

650 mL bottle from the brewery. Copper-brown with a small beige head. Had this right after a Roman Candle IPA, and this is not Roman Candle’s big brother; they are very different beers. Ironically, this one is more subtle in terms of hop aroma and flavour. Also more complex. There is melon, citrus and herbs, and not so much pine. And there is not a tonne of bitterness in the finish here, unlike many IIPAs. I’d definitely like to try this one again.

Thanks to Ryan for this. Pours a hazy dark golden brown with a moderate white top and good lacing. Aroma is fruity hop flavouring, more mango and bread malts. Taste is very hop forward with fruity hop flavours and a nice hop bitterness that dries out the palate. Very well balanced with the sweetness from the malt. Just a great, great beer.
