Medium pale gold and rocky white foam, aromas of tropical fruit and pine resin and some grapefruit that play into taste. Sharp bitterness that rounds off in some warming alcohol and a bit of malt sweetness. Palate is mildly sharp and the finish carries long with grassy-herbal sharp hops.

Pours a hazy orange with nice biege head and some lacing. Aroma of grapefuits, malt sweetness, spices, orange peel. Taste has some grapefruits, caramel, spicy amd piney hops, good malt presence, semi-dry finish. Medium-heavy body and medium carb. A but sweet for me. Too much caramel malts. I should also add that i mighht not be a fresh bottle as i dont know the bottling date. Need to revisit.

This ipa poured a medium amber colour with a beautiful, rich, frothy head. Scents include grass, spruce and citrus hopp scent most predominant. First sip was very hoppy but not quite astringent tasting.Hand full of hop though. Finish is bitter with grassy notes lingering.

A mostly lasting gentle white sheet with clinging lace settles above the honeyed holden pour with a minimal haze. Certainly aromatic enough and generously dry-hopped, but while at 9%, it’s not over the top in ABV, I found it fairly boozy in the nose. Still, resins dominate here and not far behind, a pineapple and tropical fruit salad thrive in a sweaty Columbus rather than juicy Simcoe/Amarillo frame. For my very personal tastes, the hop combination is not switching me on as much as it could on paper. In mouth, pale malts dominate and while there’s more than a little biscuity specialty malts, I would not mind the sweetness level much if it were not amplified by the generous alcohol presence. Fortunately, the small tight-bubbled effervescence manages to cleanse the palate up between the sips and takes a little away from the otherwise not subtle bitterness. Not a bad IPA as nothing coming out of Bellwoods’ tanks seems to be, but considerably below average compared to what I had from them generally, probably 8 or 9 different brews. Roman Candle IPA was on draught at the same time and I found that one far more appealing even though it’s far more Columbus-forward - a hop I don’t particularly enjoy - and less respected around here. This was from a 500 ml bought at the brewery 2 weeks ago and that I actually preferred a little compared to a draught pour at the pub - probably because the rest was so good.

Bomber from the brewery. Amber with a nice creamy off white head. A pleasent resin hop character, some malt, somewhat hot, quite bitter, grapefruit, bit of lemon zest. Full body, mild+ carbonation, bitter with a hint of sweetness, slightly boozy, a bit unbalanced, still quite tasty though.

In short: A boozy and overly bitter-aggressive caramelized and resinous fruity IPA. Intensity over drinkability. Just decent.
How: A few bottles, bomber and chubby 341ml, from Pat and robinvboyer, consumed fresh.
The look: Almost clear dark golden body topped by a persistent small beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is very resinous fruity hops, light notes of rubbing alcohol. Taste has a heavy caramelized body, some refreshing citrusy flavors, a whole lot of hop resin, a strong alcohol bite. Bitterness level in the medium-high range. Very sticky resinous sensation. Aggressive soda-pop style carbonation. A decent beer but the more I drank it the less I liked it. Everything about this beer is too much for its own good. The type of intense IPA that scores very well in a tasting but drinking a full bottle (like I did) doesn’t score so well with all that sticky hops resin and booze piling up in the back of the mouth. In the past few years Ontario have started producing kick-ass beer, but this top-rated Ontario beer ain’t one of them. Probably the least interesting Bellwoods I had so far (more ratings to come). Everybody seem to love this beer and I will disagree because I don’t care about other people opinions, do guys find it ok that I think like this?

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2013 2013/04/19 - Pours a clear, dark gold color with a thin white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, hops and sweet citrus. Taste is sweet citrus up front with a sharp, piney, bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium, with good carbonation and a crisp, drying finish. Hides ABV very well. Really smooth Imp IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
