UPDATED: NOV 13, 2007 on draft at brewery, consumed on 11/12/07. Light golden color, nice march of fine bubbles up the sides of glass. Aroma has subtle hints of lemon and other citrus. Malt taste is grainy (not corny, though) with very mild hop notes on finish. This is an APA? Tastes more like a lager. Inoffensive.

Golden yellow looked unfiltered unless it was chill haze. Some citrus aroma. Beer was relatively light on the palate. Hoppy and crisp. It was my favorite of their brews.

This one poured with a beautiful, two-fingered and fluffy head that has a bit of a peach hue. The beer itself is straight copper in color. The nose is wonderfully complex and assertive. Bountiful floral hop elements mix with prominent sweet malty notes. The body is medium but the mouthfeel has clear traction to it, leading you to believe it will be gritty and hoppy. The lovely hop notes are balanced well with what can mostly be described by a sweet, creamy malt concoction. The contrast is unreal. It finishes with a puckering kick, but floral remnants keep it an easy-to-drink offering. A very complex beer for the style.

(Draft: Belmont Brewing Company in Long Beach, CA) The pale ale is all about the hops. The malt bill is about as light and minimally impactful on the overall flavor as any I can remember in any pale ale. It tastes like an IPA without any malt behind it. About all I taste here is a moderately bitter but very citrusy hops, a citrus that starts off with a touch of orange, but almostly instantly, it is very grapefruity and sharply tart like the rind, especially in the long-lasting and bitter finish. Oddly enough, the nose isn’t nearly as grapefruity, but rather more sweetly fruity, and I’m reminded of the (canned) lychees I’ve had in the past. Body is light, naturally, but it’s very clean and extremely crisp throughout. The beer pours a very hazy medium straw color, and the small white head quickly settles to a complete sheen atop the beer. Lacing is minimal as well. If you like grapefruit and don’t mind a one-dimensional beer, this might be a good choice. I like a little, well okay, a lot more malt body in my beers though, so I’m not all that fond of this one.

On Tap @ the brewery. Pours a very pale orange/ yellow color with a smallish white head that leaves no lacing. The aroma is slightly hoppy with some citrus notes. Flavor is malty with a surprisingly strong roasty aspect. Very sweet. Little to no hop character. Slight astringency in the aftertaste.
