Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2009 Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet with dark fruits, caramel malts, and alcohol. Flavor is pretty sweet from the caramel malts and dark fruits. Finishes with some warming. Some other funky flavor comes out on the finish that I can’t quite place, but it isn’t pleasant. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Apr 18, 2009 Bottle. Golden with a creamy head. As would be expected it had a high alcohol presence. Plenty of body and very warming. To be treated with respect. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Apr 13, 2009 [bottle--thanks, cgreb!]
Spicy hops in the nose, along with some ethanol and a little dried fruit. Hazy, dark yellow with a thin, white top. Sweet hops flavour develops into an assertive bitterness and then quite a bit of ethanol that comes off as whisk(e)y-like. Warming, clean finish, moderate carbonation. cgreb (173), Marburg, Germany Mar 26, 2009 bottle - clear amber beer with almost no foam. The sweet aroma reminds on whiskey. Flavour is alcoholic sweet llike caramel and whiskey. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Mar 11, 2009 Bottle. Smell wasn’t strong. Niether was the taste. Light maltiness and yeasty. Very pour. Will give credit...Didn’t taste like 13%. Still....Boo Beerlando (2281), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 9, 2009 Updated: Mar 10, 2009The clear, syrupy looking golden liquid is topped with a small, foamy, beige colored head that fades. A dense, soapy wash leaves scattered spotting behind on the glass. Aromas are strongly alcoholic, with a syrupy sweet, corny, fusel sort of overtone that sears the nasal passages. Notes of citrus peel and cream try to fight their way through, but are overtaken by the burn. Flavors show basically like a cheap tripel, hot, corny sweet, and lightly spicy on the back end. Glazed dessert bread gives a yeasty feel, while candied citrus peel and floral hops add contrasting sweet and bitter notes. The mouthfeel isn’t as thick and syrupy as I was expecting. In fact, it borders on watery and weak, but still sports that searing alcoholic heat that cannot be overlooked. This one has some redeeming qualities, but is ultimately just not for me. talon1117 (611), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Mar 9, 2009 Pours a sparkling clear, pale amber color with an average, white, creamy, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves several nice lace rings. Nose is faint, especially for the ABV; honeyed breads, noticeable alcohol, light floral, and yeast which is dusty, basement, and slightly estery with hints at some light overripe fruit. Flavor is similar but much more prominent; an instant kick of peaches and sugar cookies followed lots of yeast (lightly estery, doughy, basement), lots of spicy alcohol (fresh black pepper), maybe even some melon with a moderately light bitterness. Palate is nice with a medium to full body, lively carbonation, lots of alcohol warmth, and a creamy, prickly feel. Finishes average with peppery warmth and the malts mellowing to a nice sweet caramel, and a light bitterness. Some rather harsh ratings for this beer. It isn’t delicate by any means; it is bold with noticeable warmth, a nice palate, rich malt notes which develop by the finish, and just enough fruit, yeast, and bitterness to make it interesting. Lacking complexity for a beer this strong but certainly worth a try for the uniqueness. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Feb 24, 2009 Bottle @ Michael’s Genuine. Pours dark gold and clear with small tight white head. Fresh grain aromas are clean and belie the strength. Hints of honey and unroasted nuts. Nice level of carbonation and a smooth palate. Sweet and strong, almost hot but more of a fresh, baguetty flavor that is welcoming. I liked it!
