DaSilky1 (1926), San Diego, California, USA Aug 7, 2004 Ive had this at 55 degrees for over 2 years...dont know how old it was when i got it...it pours a clear orangish amber color with a thin head that quickly dissappears completely.. and has a quite nice woody malt aroma with some nicely defined bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and candied fruil notes ..very impressive aroma indeed! Prickly carbination greets the tongue, followed by slightly torched caramel flavors...turning slightly to show alcoholic shadows..solid sweetness...oxidized sugarcane...Definite caramelly malt flavors..Alcohol dominated palate, right above the slightly astringent feeling....but, better than i expeceted, not as good as i had hoped..obviously. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Aug 4, 2004 No head on a medium amber hazy body. Poured very thick & lightly syrupy w/ thick alcohol legs on the glass. Soventy hairspray alcohol aroma @ first whiff, followed by a corn sugary sweet aroma. Vanilla as it warms, then some winey and woody notes; hints of scotch whiskey; very oaky woody when it warms. Well balanced w/ a hop bitterness in the finish into the aftertaste which is highly bitter. Alcohol, whiskey, woody flavors, very little fruitiness, dry finish but malt flavored mid palate. Not much depth overall. Very full bodied & smooth with some alcohol burn in the mouth as it leaves. I’m not sure exactly what to think of this beer! I’m not 100% sure I like it a whole lot. It’s complexities are low for a bigger beer and seems more like watered down whiskey to me. RedEft (131), Wichita, Kansas, USA Aug 3, 2004 Wow, 9 bucks for 3 bottles...and what ridiculously small bottles they are. Ah well, the aroma is intense...alcohol and sweet creamed corn. Very sweet and brandyesque. Incredibly smooth considering the ridiculous alcohol content (which asserts itself early). I feel tempted to give this a very high rating but wait a couple hours to try it again. The rating lowers. You could hurt yourself with this. A puzzling brew, I like it. Too damn expensive though. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium Jul 13, 2004 Beer?? with a light-amber color and no head.Alcohol dominated aroma with small touch of malt and some sweetness.Taste from sweet alcohol With some spices and light bitterness in the end.Alcohol O.K.but where is the balance? willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Jun 21, 2004 Brewtopia’04. Clouded brown color with no head. Dirty socks are the first thought I have with the aroma. Big, fortified, boozy presence like GrandMarnier. Huge and cloying beer. Very malty and sugary, then woody and burning. Fun to try. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Jun 20, 2004 Pours a cloudy amber with a weak beige head. Aroma was of sherry, malt, hops. Not very inviting. Medium body. Flavor was potent. Strong alcohol. Like drinking whiskey. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jun 17, 2004 Thick brown pour. Little or no head. Aroma is a nice mix of malts and alcohol. Flavor is the same as aroma a nice mix of malts and alcohol but with a fruity, winey aftertaste. Not bad just having one. Have more than that and give me the keys. beerbastard (94), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 14, 2004 Thick look to the pour. Lot of alcohol in the nose, and oh yes I noticed some fruityness somewhere in there, too. Sweet and full alcohol in the taste. A thick beer, not hopped enough for me.
