Highly touted -by the the guy who sold it to me of course-, Belzebuth is another demonically named strong ale. The 8 style rating does not bode well for this. The high fructose aroma is reminiscent of truly brutal malt liquors, but the taste is at least recognizable as Belgian style, but extremely sweet. Lots of fruit notes. The color is opaque and the shade of varnished plyboard. No head due to high proof. Lingers like a schnapps shoot on the palate. Mine was an 8.4 once bottle that looks exactly like what’s pictured, including the peeling upper label. Other offerings from the brewer are canned implying a Franco-Steel Reserve. All that being said I really enjoyed the experience of imbibing this. Stupid-strength beers can be good, within reason

Appearance: clear deep honeyed gold, with a one-finger bright white head that lingered for the whole glass. Aroma: honey smacks, corn syrup, hint of passion fruit, and BOOZE. Taste: super sweet and syrupy, with notes of cereal and booze and melon. Finish: doughy, sweet, with lingering booze and an alcohol belly warmth. Notes: Clearly a gimmick beer, but it was surprisingly not the worst thing ever. Relatively drinkable, and the alcohol wasn’t TOO strong.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Oren. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of alcohol, chemicals and some fruits. Sweet and very alcoholic flavor. Somewhat syrupy body. Undrinkable.

Much too sweet for my taste, though it masks the high alcohol content. Tastes like there was corn syrup added. Sampled with Olivier and David at De Paas in the Hague, Oct, 2011.

bottle at café medeia, lisbon. Aroma is full of alcohol and a fair golden appearance. Not my type of beer.

(Bottle) Golden with some white head. Hoppy and spicy aroma. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is spicy, sweet, rich and complex. Overall a very nice, full-on beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a diminishing off-white head. Bit of lacing. Sweet, fruity-grainy aroma. Notes of malt as it warms. Flavour is sweet, fruity, grainy and a bit spicy (a bit like cloves, but not quite). Touch of melon overtone. Finish is the same with lingering grainy notes. 25.08.11.

Bottle at home. Golden / yellow colored beer with a small off-white head. Smell malts and a little alcohol. Taste not as alcoholic as you might expect. Decent.

(8.4oz bottle). Pours a hazy apricot color with thin off-white head and yeast in suspension. Little carbonation. Aroma has corn, alcohol, and some florals. Taste is sweet with more corn/adjuncts followed by some light bitterness and a bit of alcohol. Medium bodied with a sticky texture. Finish has a bit of alcohol, but smooth anyways. Ok beer.
